Description

Building Construction, Unknown Date. These two black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show several people congregating in front of a wooden building which is under construction or being renovated. Also visible are two people working on the building. Image 31 shows at left a woman wearing a cardigan or thin jacket over a collared shirt. She is also holding a purse over her left shoulder. On the right is a man with curly hair wearing glasses and a short-sleeved button-up shirt. Both of these people's bodies are oriented away from the camera, but they are facing toward each other. The building under construction is visible behind them. Another woman in a vertically-striped shirt is partially visible facing away from the camera at the right-hand edge of the image frame. One man is visible working on the roof of the house. A man in a suit and wearing a clergyman's collar (Father John Scott) is approaching the camera from near the building. Image 32 shows Father Scott shaking the hand of the woman in the cardigan or jacket. The man with curly hair has stepped toward the right-hand side of the image frame. Image 33 shows, from left to right, the woman in the cardigan/jacket, a balding man in a short-sleeved, button-up shirt, and the man with curly hair standing together. They are holding a stack of large documents, which are presumably blueprints. The woman and the man with curly hair are looking down at the documents and the man at center is looking toward the camera. Two men are visible working on the roof. This image is oriented vertically. Image 34 is very similar to the previous image, but here the photographer has stepped to their right slightly. Image 35 is very similar to the previous two images, but here the image is oriented horizontally. Image 36 is very similar to the previous image, but here the photographer has zoomed in on or moved closer to the people looking at the blueprints. Image 37 is very similar to the previous image, but here the photographer has moved quite far away from the three people looking at the blueprints. Two sawhorses, some piled lumber and a metal garbage can with a domed top is visible in the bottom-right corner of the image frame. Image 38 shows the balding man standing at left and the man with curly hair at the right. The man with curly hair is the closer of the two men to the camera. The balding man is holding a rolled up document and looking toward the camera. The man with curly hair is facing partially toward the left-hand side of the image. Two men are visible working on the roof of the building in the background. Image 39 is very similar to the previous image, but here the man with the curly hair is holding a rolled-up document in his left hand. Image 40 shows the woman wearing the cardigan/jacket standing with her right hand on her right hip and her left hand in the left pocked of her cardigan/jacket. The woman's head and body are oriented partially toward the right-hand side of the image frame. The building under construction is visible in the background.
