Description

Gathering at Gallagher House, c. 1986. This color photograph shows two men and two women standing in a room of the Gallagher House. The person nearest to the camera is a woman with short, brown, curly hair wearing a white blouse and white pants. She is facing toward the right-hand side of the image frame. She is holding a can of Sunkist orange soda in her left hand. Behind and slightly to the left of the woman is a tall man with dark hair wearing glasses, a dark blue sweater over a white or light blue dress shirt and dark tie, and tan pants. This man is looking toward his right toward the left-hand side of the image frame. To the right of this man is a man with reddish hair wearing glasses, a teal polo shirt, a small fanny pack, and dark pants. He is holding a small cup in his right hand and a yellow napkin in his left hand. He is facing toward the right-hand side of the image frame, and he is shown in profile. To the right of this man is a woman with long light brown hair wearing glasses, a dark blue blouse and dark pants. She is holding a white disposable cup in her right hand and she is looking toward the camera. Her mouth is open. Occupying the bottom-right corner of this image is a table with vases of flowers, snacks and a coffee dispenser. At the far side of the room is an open doorway which looks into a kitchen with unpainted wooden cabinets. Partially visible behind the tall man is a portion of a brick fireplace. The reverse side of this photograph is blank aside from the accession number in the lower-right corner. The Gallagher House was built in either late 1896 or early 1897 at what later became the intersection of Carpenter Road and Pacific Avenue in Lacey, Washington, most likely by William B. Chamberlin. By 1900, the home had been repossessed by Alameda Rowe, the original owner of the land on which the home was built. Rowe turned the house and the adjoining property over to relatives in 1902, who then sold the house and property to Cornelius and Anna Gallagher in 1908. The Gallaghers lived in the home until Cornelius passed away in 1950. The house then changed hands to Harold and Millie Crass, who then sold it to Abner and Hazel Hukee in 1959. In 1985, the house was donated to the Lacey Historical Society, who moved the house to a piece of property adjacent to the Lacey Museum on Lacey Street. The house was subsequently rented out by the Lacey Historical Society until it was sold to a private buyer in 2018.
