Description

Cornelius and Anna Gallagher at Gallagher Farm, Unknown Date. This black and white photograph shows Cornelius Gallagher and his wife Anna Gallagher posing for a photo behind the Gallagher House when it was located at what is now the southeast corner of Pacific Avenue and Carpenter Road in Lacey, Washington. Mr. Gallagher is at left, and he is balding and has a mustache. He is wearing a dark suit with a vest. A watch fob chain is visible hanging from the vest and going underneath his suit jacket. Ms. Gallagher is on the right, and she has short, wavy hair and glasses. She is wearing a dress with a pattern of mostly horizontal vines of ivy or small flowers. The dress has elbow-length sleeves, is belted, and ends at the mid-calf. They are standing in a grassy lawn, and a portion of the rear side of the home is visible at the left-hand edge of the image. The back door to the home would be just beyond the left-hand edge of this image frame. A tall bush is immediately behind the Gallaghers. A second home is partially visible at the right-hand edge of the image. "Gandpa + Gandma GaLLagher" is written across the bottom of the image. Written on the back side of this photograph in the bottom-right corner is the accession number. Written in the upper-left corner is an old accession number, which is crossed out. The number 977 is written near the top-right corner. The Gallagher House was built in either late 1896 or early 1897 at what later became the intersection of Carpenter Road and Pacific Avenue in Lacey, Washington, most likely by William B. Chamberlin. By 1900, the home had been repossessed by Alameda Rowe, the original owner of the land on which the home was built. Rowe turned the house and the adjoining property over to relatives in 1902, who then sold the house and property to Cornelius and Anna Gallagher in 1908. The Gallaghers lived in the home until Cornelius passed away in 1950. The house then changed hands to Harold and Millie Crass, who then sold it to Abner and Hazel Hukee in 1959. In 1985, the house was donated to the Lacey Historical Society, who moved the house to a piece of property adjacent to the Lacey Museum on Lacey Street. The house was subsequently rented out by the Lacey Historical Society until it was sold to a private buyer in 2018.
