Description

Unidentified People, 1973. These seven black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using three separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show an open water spicket and a little boy drinking from a garden hose. Image 7a shows a water spicket sticking up out of a grass lawn. The water spicket is open, and water is coming out. Images 8a and 9a are nearly identical to image 7a. Image 10a shows a small boy drinking water out of a hose. This image was captured from above and looking down toward the boy. The top of the boy's head occupies the top-right quadrant of the image, and his face is turned downward and away from the camera. He is holding the hose in his right hand. He is wearing pants with a map pattern and trucks on them. Image 11a is very similar to the previous image, but here the photographer has zoomed out slightly. The boy's left arm is partially visible held out to his side. Image 12a is nearly identical to image 11a. Image 13a is very similar to the previous three images, but here the photographer appears to have crocuhed down to be at a more equal height to the boy. Here the boy's face is partially visible. Image 14a is similar to the previous image, but herenthe photographer has zoomed out slightly. Image 15a is nearly identical to image 13a. Image 16a shows the boy drinking from the hose, but here the photgrapher has moved to the boy's left side. The left side of the boy's face is completely visible in this image. The images in group "b" show children looking into a carriage hearse, a woman pounding a nail into a piece of lumber, and children eating cake and/or ice cream. Image 15b shows three children looking into a window of a carriage hearse. Printed on the window is "The Royal Coach." Image 16b shows a woman with short hair in a sleeveless turtleneck pounding a nail into a piece of lumber. She is outdoors, and the piece of lumber is laying on a wooden picnic table. Four adults and a child are watching from the right-hand side of the image. This image is oriented horizontally. Image 17b is very similar to the previous image, but here the image is oriented vertically. Two children are visible in the background to the right of the woman. Image 18b shows a different woman with short hair and wearing a sleeveless turtleneck sweater pounding a nail into a piece of lumber on the picnic table. Here the photographer appears to be crouched down and looking up toward the woman. Image 19b shows a little girl with pigtails wearing a sleeveless shirt or dress seated at a picnic table and scooping up a piece of cake from a small plate in front of her. She is looking down toward the cake, and she is visible from the chest up. A park-style barbeque grill is visible in the background to the girl's left. Several people are visible in the background to the right of the girl. Image 20b shows the girl taking a bite of the cake. A boy in a tank top is sitting at the table to the left of the girl. An adult facing away from the camera and bending over is visible in the background to the right of the girl. Image 21b shows a girl with bangs and her hair pulled back in a pony tail seated at a picnic table and taking a bite of cake. This girl is wearing a sleeveless dress, and is visible from the chest up. A woman in a sleeveless turtleneck sweater is partially visible sitting at the table to the left of the woman. Image 22b shows a boy wearing a captain's hat and short-sleeved button-up shirt sitting at a picnic table and looking toward the camera. A bowl of cake or ice cream is in front of him on the table. A woman in a short-sleeved dress or blouse is partially visible sitting at the table to the right of the boy. Image 23b is very similar to the previous image, but here the boy is taking a bite of the cake or ice cream. Image 24b shows a toddler sitting at the picnic table and taking a bite of ice cream or cake. They are looking toward the camera. A man in short, a striped shirt and a cap is visible walking near the right-hand edge of the image. Image 25 shows a toddler being held by a woman and fed a bite of cake or ice cream by the woman. The images in group "c" show a boy kneeling in an office. He is holding a golf putter in his left hand and is touching a trophy, which is on the floor, with his right hand. Image 19c shows the boy posing as described. The trophy is to the left of center of the boy. Image 24c is very similar to the previous image, but here the trophy has been moved to be cenetered on the boy. He is no longer touching the trophy. Image 25c is very similar to the previous image, but here the photographer has zoomed out slightly. Image 26c is similar to the previous images, but here the photographer has zoomed in on the boy. Here the boy's feet and right knee are outside of the image frame. Image 27c is nearly identical to image 25c.
