Description

Becky Parker Trails End Queen, 1974. These two black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show a young woman (Becky Parker) posing for portrait-style photos. She is wearing a hat made of woven wicker or a similar material, a plaid blazer and a turtleneck sweater. There is a circular medal attached to the front of the hat. This medal reads "QUEEN BECKY PARKER" at the top and "TRAILS END RANCH, 1974." At the center of the medal is an illustration of a horse's head in profile. Ms. Parker's head and torso are turned partially toward the right-hand side of the image frame in all of these images. She is shown from the chest up in all of these images. Image 2 shows Ms. Parker smiling. Image 3 shows Ms. Parker no longer smiling, and with a quizzical expression on her face. Image 4 shows Ms. Parker with a large smile. She appears to be laughing. Image 5 is very similar to the previous image, but here Ms. Parker's head is tipped back slightly. Image 6 is nearly identical to image 3. Images 7 and 8 are nearly identical to image 5. Becky Parker was crowned the Trails End Queen on August 18, 1974. This position was part of the Helen Shank Trail Days celebration held at the Trails End Ranch south of Tumwater, Washington. ("Becky Parker Named Queen," Daily Olympian, 8/15/1974)
