Description

Freeman Rose, 1976. These three black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show a man (Freeman Rose) dressed as Santa Claus posing individually for photos, an unknown man with a mustache, and Freeman Rose dressed as Santa Claus meeting children. Image 3 shows Mr. Rose dressed as Santa Claus and posing for a photo. His head is turned partially toward the left-hand side of the image frame and his body is turned completely toward the left-hand side of the image frame. He is holding a sack over his left shoulder. He is looking toward the camera, and he is shown from the waist up. Image 4 is very similar to this image, but here the photographer has stooped down slightly and is looking up toward Mr Rose. Image 5 is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 6 is similar to image 3, but here Mr. Rose is holding up in his right hand a looped strap with sleigh bells attached to it. Here the photographer has also zoomed out or moved away from Mr. Rose, so that here he is visible from the mid-thigh up. Images 7 and 8 are nearly identical to image 6. Image 9 is similar to the previous images, but here he is holding the looped bells jin his left hand, whish is also still holding the sack over his shoulder. Mr. Rose is holding his right hand up near to the right side of his head. In his right hand he is also holding a long, unlooped strap with sleigh bells attached. Image 10 is very similar to image 9, but here Mr. Rose is holding the long strap with bells attached at approximately shoulder height. Image 11 shows an unknown man with a mustache and sideburns seated in a chair. He is wearing a jacket with a wool collar, and there is a round patch on the shoulder of his jacket which is only partially visible. He is reaching up and touching his left cheek with his right hand. This man is only visible from the chest up, and he is looking to his right toward the camera. There is what appears to be window drapes hanging behind the man. Image 12 is similar to image 11, but here the man is looking down at something in his hands. The man is shown in profile. Image 16 shows Mr. Rose dressed as Santa Claus seated in a chair and leaning over toward three children who are standing in front of him. Two women are standing nearby. Mr. Rose is facing in the general direction of the camera, and all of the children are facing away from the camera. This image appears to have been captured in a classroom or perhaps a public library. This image is oriented vertically. Image 17 shows a very similar scene to the previous image, but this image is quite blurry. Image 18 is very similar to image 16, but here the image is oriented horizontally. Image 19 shows Mr. Rose kneeling down on his right knee and speaking to several children. A woman with glasses wearing a long coat is standing behind Mr. Rose. These images were created for inclusion with an article concerning Freeman Rose's years of experience in playing Santa Claus for local children.
