Description

Unidentified People, 1974. These four black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using at least two separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are duplicated. For the purposes of this description, these film rolls will be grouped according the the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show two young men and one young woman posing for portrait-style photos. Image 10a shows a young man with hair parted to his right and curling at the forehead. He also has sideburns and is wearing a plaid, collared, button-up shirt. Over this shirt he is wearing a jacket with a patch on the left breast. This badge reads "VOCATIONAL FFA AGRICULTURE" and it has an eagle at the top. This young man's name appears to be embroidered on the right-hand breast of the jacket, but it is not readable. This young man is turned toward the left-hand side of the image frame. He is looking toward the camera and not smiling. This young man is shown from the mid-torso up. Image 11a is very similar to the previous image, but here the young man's head is turned slightly more toward the camera and he is smiling. Image 12a shows a young woman with long hair parted at the middle. She is wearing a vertically-striped shirt, and over the shirt she is wearing a very similar jacket to that worn by the young man in images 10a and 11a. The name embroidered on the right-hand breast of this young woman's jacket is also not readable. This young woman is turned toward the left-hand side of the image frame, she is looking toward the camera, and she is showing a closed-lipped smile. She is shown from the mid-torso up. Image 13a is very similar to image 12a, but here the young woman is showing an open-lipped smile. Image 14a is very similar to image 13a, but here the photographer has panned to their left slightly, making an electrical wall outlet visible in the lower-left corner of the image. Image 15a shows a young man with straight-cut bangs and hair which covers his ears. He is wearing a jacket similar to those worn by the young man and young woman in the previous images . This young man is turned toward the right-hand side of the image frame and is looking off to the right of the camera. He is smiling very slightly. The name embroidered on this young man's jacket appears to be "Lou Devoe" or "Lou Devol," but the cursive text and folds of the jacket make it difficult to make out. This young man is shown from the mid-torso up. Image 16a is very similar to the previous image, but here the young man's eyes are closed and he appears to be laughing. The images in group "b" show two older women standing next to each other, and two young men posing individaully for photos. Image 14b shows two older women standing side-by-side and looking down at a document which they are both looking down at. The woman at the left is the taller of the two women, and she is wearing a short-sleeved dress with a v-neckline. She is also wearing a thin scarf tied around her neck. Her hair is fairly short and tightly curled. The woman at right is the shorter of the two, and she has wavy medium-length hair. She is wearing a blazer over a patterned shirt with a large collar. Image 15b shows a man with his hair parted to his left and sideburns. He is wearing glasses, a collared, button-up shirt, and a diagonally-striped tie. He has a pen and a folded leather accessory of some kind in his left-breast pocket. He is partially turned toward the right-hand side of the image frame. Image 16b is similar to the previous image, but here the young man is facing directly toward the camera. Image 17b sis similar to the two previous images, but here the young man is facing partially toward the left-hand side of the image frame. Image 35b shows a young man seated in an office. This young man has hair which is parted to his right and which hangs over his ears. He is wearing a sweater-vest over a collared, button-up shirt. He is wearing plaid pants. To the right of the young man is a sloped table with an issue of the Lacey Leader newspaper on top. To the left of the young man is a row of binders which is tipping over, a stack of documents and a small box. The young man is turned partially toward the left-hand side of the image frame and he is facing downward. He is shown from roughly the waist up. The office has wood-paneled walls. Image 36b shows the young man in a similar position as that in the previous image, but here the young man is looking toward the camera and smiling. The photographer has zoomed in on the young man or moved closer to him. Here he is shown from the mid-torso up. Image 37b shows the same young man, but here he is shown in profile. He is facing toward the left-hand side of the image. He is shown from the chest-up. Image 38b shows the young man turned partially toward the right-hand side of the image frame. He is looking toward the camera and smiling. He is shown from the chest up. Image 39b is similar to image 38b, but here the young man has turned his head directly toward the camera. Image 40b shown that the young man is seated on a desk. His head is turned slightly toward the left-hand side of the image frame and his body is turned toward the camera. He is holding a slim book in his hands. He is shown from the knees up.
