Description

Creighton Hayes, 1979. These four black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show daffodils and an older man (Creighton Hayes) posing for photos, raking a yard and looking at documents. All of these images were captured outdoors. These images were most likely captured at Mr. Hayes' home at Panorama City. Image 3 shows several daffodils growing. Some have not yet bloomed. A road is visible in the background. Image 4 is nearly identical to image 3, although the image frame is misaligned so that it overlaps image 5. Image 5 shows Crieghton Hayes standing in a wooded area. His hair is combed back, he is wearing glasses and has a mustache. He is wearing a suit and a wide tie. The tie has a tie clip. On his left lapel is a Rotary pin and a flower bud. A nametag is partially visible on the left breast of his jacket. His head is tipped to his right slightly and his mouth is open slightly. He is shown from the chest-up. Image 6 is very similar to image 5, but here the photographer appears to have stooped down, and the image looks upward toward Mr. Hayes' face. Mr. Hayes is looking down toward the camera. His nametag is fully readable in this image, and it reads "BEGORRA O'HAYS HIMSELF." Image 7 is similar to the previous two images, but here Mr. Hayes' head and body are turned toward the right-hand edge of the image. Image 8 shows Mr. Hayes holding a single flower. The flower appears to be a daffodil. His head and body are turned partially toward the right-hand edge of the image, and he is looking toward the camera. He is shown from the waist up. This image is oriented vertically. Image 9 is very similar to image 8, but here the image is oriented horizontally. Image 10 is similar to image 9, but here Mr. Hayes is holding the daffodil close to his chest. His hands are not within the image frame. Image 11 shows Mr. Hayes holding a rake handle with both hands. The lower half of Mr. Hayes' body and the head of the rake are outside of the image frame. Mr. Hayes is turned toward the right-hand edge of the image. One house is partially visible at the left-hand edge of the image and a second house is partially visible at the right. Both homes have bushes growing immediately next to them. A small garden plot with leafless bushes is visible to the right of Mr. Hayes. This image is oriented horizontally. Image 12 is very similar to the previous image, but this image is oriented vertically. Image 13 is similar to the previous two images, but here the photographer has zoomed out or moved away from Mr. Hayes. Mr Hayes is visible from head to toe, and the rake is also completely visible. Image 14 again shows Mr. Hayes from head to toe and raking, but here his body is turned roughly toward the camera and his head is turned partially toward the left-hand side of the image frame. The rake handle is crossing Mr. Hayes' body diagonally, from the bottom left to the top right. Image 15 is similar to the previous two images, but here Mr. Hayes is turned toward the right-hand edge of the image and bending forward slightly. The head of the rake is outside of the image frame. Image 16 is very similar to image 15, but here the photographer has moved farther away from Mr. Hayes. Image 17 shows Mr Hayes holding several documents in his left hand. His head and body are turned slightly toward the right-hand side of the image frame and he is shown from the hips up. The lower half of his right arm is outside of the image frame. A daffodil is sticking out of his breast pocket. A house is partially visible in the background. This image is oriented vertically. Image 18 is nearly identical to image 17. Image 19 is similar to the previous two images, but here Mr. Hayes is holding the documents with both hands (his hands are outside of the image frame). This image is oriented horizontally. Image 20 is nearly identical to image 19. Image 21 is very similar to the previous two images, but here Mr. Hayes appears to be looking toward the camera. This image is oriented vertically. His hands are visible in this image. Image 22 is very similar to image 21, but here Mr. Hayes is looking toward the upper-right corner of the image. These images were captured for inclusion in a profile of Mr. Hays. ("Lacey Profile: Creighton Hays, Lacey Leader, 3/28/1979)
