Metal equine horseshoe with calks (a variant of the word caulk) to add traction. The calks on the toe are square bolt heads. The calks on the heels are square heads with a cone-like projection. The calks on the left side (when the shoe is attached to the horse's foot and touching the ground) are significantly worn to a greater degree. The entire shoe has been coated with a glossy, brown colored substance. Each side of the shoe has a groove in which are holes for the nails. On the inside of the shoe is a semi-circular bevel with a notch at the toe. There are letters molded or stamped onto the shoe at the toe that are too worn to be clearly read, but could be in part "6F" or "6H".
The shoe was obtained from and probably used at the Brohman farm in North Dakota in the early 1900s.Made/Created
