Description

Single-jointed jawbreaker bit used together with a bridle to control spirited horses. There are two short rods, each having a small ring welded on one end and a hole bored through the ball-shaped other end. The small rings are linked together and large rings are loosely fitted through the holes. The large rings are available to attach to the bridle straps, and the small rings permit a swivel within the horse's mouth. This bit was used at the Brohman farm in North Dakota in the early 1900s. There is a stamped maker's mark "USHCO", which is most likely for US Hame Co.
