Description

Harold's Appliance, 1979. These three black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show a man (Earl Lavasseur) posing for photos in a home appliance store. The man has combed-back hair and is wearing glasses. He is also wearing a cardigan over a button-up collared shirt, and plaid pants. He is wearing a watch on his left wrist. Image 17 shows the man standing with his hands clasped in front of him at his waist. His head and body are turned slightly toward the left-hand side of the image frame. He is standing in front of a row of 5-6 washing machines. He is near to the right-hand end of the row of washing machines. Visible in the background to the left is a row of refrigerators, and in the background to the right are stoves. The man is shown from the hips up. This image is oriented horizontally. Image 18 is nearly identical to image 17. Image 19 is very similar to the previous two images, but here the image is oriented vertically. Here the man is shown from the knees up. Image 20 shows the man standing at the opposite end of the row of washing machines. He has also turned so that the last washing machine in line is immediately at his right. His hands are still clasped in front of him. His head and body are oriented toward the camera. Visible in the right-hand half of the background is a row of refrigerators in front of a large window. This image is oriented horizontally. Image 21 is very similar to image 20, but here the photographer has panned toward his right slightly. Image 22 is nearly identical to image 21. Image 23 is very similar to image 22, but here the photographer has panned downward slightly. Here the man is shown from the mid-thigh up. Image 24 is very similar to the previous image, but here the image is oriented vertically. Here the man is shown from the ankles up. Images 25 and 26 are nearly identical to image 24. Image 27 shows the man standing in the same spot as in the previous seven images, but here he is leaning on the washing machine to his right with his right hand. His left hand is on his hip. Image 28 is nearly identical to image 27. The man is shown from the mid-thigh up. Image 29 is very similar to the previous two images, but here the photographer has zoomed in or moved closer to the man. Here the man is shown from the waist up. His right hand is outside of the image frame. Images 30 and 31 are nearly identical to image 29. These images were captured for inclusion with an advertisement for Harold's Appliance in the Lacey Leader newspaper.
