Description

Paring tool for preparing oxen hooves for shoeing. Written material received with the donation described this object as a "buttress." One definition for buttress is "In farriery, an instrument of steel set in wood, for paring the hoof..." The object consists of an "S" shaped metal rod with a flat end sharpened as a blade, which rod is set in a round wooden handle that has a round portion to grip and a flat pad with which to push. Possibly belonged to Benjamin B. Turner, donor's granfather.
