Home Show and Horses, 1972. These five black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show a home show which appears to have taken place in the pavilion on the Saint Martin's campus, and people posing with a horse outdoors. Image 43 shows an elevated shot of the home show. At the far side of the pavilion is a sign which reads "Welcome TO THE HOME SHOW " and "SPONSORED BY THE HOME BUILDERS ASSOCIATION OF GREATER OLYMPIA." There are many cubicle-style booths advertising businesses set up in the pavilion, and many people milling about near the booths. Images 44 and 1-2 all show a very similar scene. Image 3 shows an elevated shot looking down on three people throwing clay pots on pottery wheels. Many people are gathered around and watching the three people throwing pots. Image 4 is nearly identical to image 3. Image 5 also shows the people throwing pots, but here the photographer has moved to be only 4-5 feet away from one of the pot throwers. The photographer appears to be kneeling down, as the camera is approximately at the same level as the tops of the pottery wheels. Image 6 shows a piece of plywood with a sectioned circle of what appears to be various types of carpeting mounted to it. At the top of the piece of plywood is a sign which reads "LACEY FIRE DIST. NO. 3." Below this sign is text panted on the plywood which reads "When you buy carpeting should color be your only consideration?" At the center of the circle of carpeting is a sign or plaque which is not readable in this image. This object appears to be a display intended to educate people about the relative fire resistance of various types of carpeting. Image 7 is very similar to the previous image, but here the photographer has zoomed in or moved closer to the display. Image 8 shows a man and a boy inside of what appears to be one of the booths at the home show. The boy is at the left and the man is at the right. The boy is seated on a fabric-draped bench which runs the width of the booth, and the man is kneeling down next to the bench with one arm resting on the bench and the other resting on his left knee. The boy has shoulder-length hair parted toward his right. He is wearing a hooded sweatshirt (with the hood down), vertically-striped pants and athletic shoes. His hands are crossed between his knees. The boy's head and body are turned slightly toward the right-hand side of the image frame, and he is looking over at the man. The man has chin-length hair parted to his right and sideburns. He is wearing collared, button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled to the elbow, slacks, and ankle-height boots with a buckle on them. The man's head and body are turned all of the way toward the left-hand side of the image frame. He is looking at the boy. Propped up on the bench between the boy and the man is a small sign which reads "Patrick's Floor Covering" and lists their products. The walls of the booth are carpeted. There are drapes at the entrance to the booth, and these are drawn to the sides. Image 9 is similar to the previous image, but here the photographer has zoomed out or stepped back from the booth. The man and the boy are feeling the fabric covering the bench. Images 10-12 are nearly identical to image 9. Image 33 shows a man and a woman posing with a spotted horse. The horse is at the left, the man is at center, and the woman is at the right. The man has a mustache, is wearing a cowboy hat, a jacket, slacks and boots. The woman has long hair and is wearing a jacket, slacks and boots. The woman is holding a prize ribbon. She appears to be wearing a nametag, but it is much too small to read. In the background at left is a house, at center is a garage, and at the right a tractor or similar vehicle is partially visible. The horse, the man and the woman are all looking toward the camera. Image 34 is nearly identical to image 33. Image 35 is very similar to the previous two images, but here the horse is looking off toward the left-hand side of the image frame. Image 36 is nearly identical to image 35. Image 37 is nearly identical to images 35 and 36. Image 38 shows a man dressed in a long Plains Native American headdress and leather-fringed top and pants posing with a horse. The horse has a Native American blanket on its back, and other decorative elements. The horse is at the left and the man is at the right. In the background a portion of a tractor is visible behind the horse. The man and horse are looking toward the camera. Image 39 is nearly identical to image 38. Image 40 is very similar to the previous two images, but here the horse is looking over toward the left-hand side of the image frame.Made/Created
