Unidentified People, 1978. These nine black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using two separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, each of these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images.
The images in group "a" show two young men and two young women posing individually for photos. Image 1a shows a young man with medium-length hair parted at the center wearing a crew-neck sweater over a collared shirt. The sleeves of the sweater are pulled up to the mid-forearm. This young man's head and body are oriented directly toward the camera, and he is looking toward the camera and smiling. His head is tilted very slightly toward his left. His hands appear to be clasped behind his back. This young man is shown from the waist up. Image 2a is very similar to the previous image, but here the young man's head is turned very slightly toward the right-hand side of the image frame. Here his arms are hanging at his sides. Images 3a and 4a are nearly identical to image 2a. Image 5a shows a young woman with long, straight hair wearing a floral print dress with a frill around the shoulder over a turtleneck sweater. She is also wearing a small pendant necklace. Her head and body are oriented directly toward the camera, and she is looking toward the camera and smiling. Her hands appear to be clasped in front of her. She is shown from the hips up. Image 6a is very similar to the previous image, but here the young woman has less of a smile on her face. Images 7a through 9a are nearly identical to image 5a. Image 10a shows a young man with wavy hair parted toward his right wearing a crew neck sweater over a collared shirt. His body is oriented directly toward the camera, but his head is turned partially toward the left-hand side of the image frame. He is looking toward the camera and not smiling. Image 11a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 12a is very similar to the previous two images, but here the young man is smiling. Images 13a and 14a are nearly identical to image 12a. Image 15a shows a young woman with shoulder-length hair curled outward from her face wearing a loose-fitting, short-sleeved top with a tie at the neck and a floral print skirt. The woman's head and body are oriented directly toward the camera. She is looking toward the camera and smiling. Her hands are clasped in front of her. She is shown from the mid-thigh up. Images 16a through 18a are nearly identical to image 15a.
The images in group "b" show three men and two women posing individually for photos. Image 15b shows a young man wearing a baseball-style cap which reads "1978 3rd annual JERRY BASSETT INVITE" on the front. He is also wearing glasses and a short-sleeved, collared, button-up shirt. His head and body are oriented directly toward the camera and he is looking toward the camera and smiling. He is shown from the mid-torso up. Images 16b and 17b are nearly identical to image 15b. Image 28b shows a young man with medium-length hair parted at the center wearing a short-sleeved shirt with a polo-style collar and a buttoned pocket on each side of the chest. His head and body are oriented directly toward the camera and he is looking toward the camera and smiling slightly. He is shown from the waist up, Image 29b is very similar to image 28b, but here the young man has a larger smile on his face. Image 30b is nearly identical to image 29b. Image 31b is nearly identical to image 29b. Image 32b shows a young woman with long, straight hair wearing a vest over a collared, long-sleeved shirt. Her head and body are turned slightly toward the right-hand side of the image frame. She is looking toward the camera and smiling. She is shown from the waist up. Image 33b is very similar to the previous image, but here the woman's head is turned more toward the camera. Image 34b is very similar to the previous image, but here the young woman is not smiling. Image 35b is nearly identical to image 33b. Image 37b shows a young woman with long, wavy hair wearing what appears to be a strapped dress over a shirt with a tie at the neck. Her head and body are turned toward the left-hand side of the image and she is looking toward the camera and smiling. She is shown from the chest up. Image 38b is similar to the previous image but here the young woman is looking off toward the left of the camera and appears to be speaking. There are also what appear to be tree limbs superimposed on her face, presumably left by a mistake in the capturing or development process. Image 39b is very similar to image 37b, but here the young woman's head and body are turned partially toward the right-hand side of the image frame. This image also has the image of tree limbs superimposed on it, but here there are more branches. Image 40b is similar to the previous image, but here the young woman has her left hand covering the bottom half of her face. Image 41b is very similar to image 39b, but here the young woman's face is turned more directly toward the camera. Image 42b shows a young man with medium-length hair covering his ears wearing a vertically-striped collared, button-up shirt. His head and body are turned partially toward the left-hand side of the image, and he is looking toward the camera and smiling. He is shown from the chest-up. This image also has the superimposed tree branches seen in images 38b and 39b. Image 43b is very similar to the previous image, but here the young man is not smiling. Image 44b is very similar to image 42b, but here the young man's head and body are turned partially toward the right-hand side of the image frame. This images also has the tree branches superimposed on it. Image 1b is very similar to image 44b, but here there are no tree branches. Image 2b is a very blurry shot of what may be a curtain and a ladder.Made/Created
