Description

Wood and metal planting device for planting or seeding corn by hand. Two wooden slats are hinged together at the bottom and each have a round (turned) handle at the top. The hinges have metal blades that come together when the slats are spread apart at the top so as to permit insertion into the ground. When the slats are then pulled together at the top the blades separate and create an opening in the ground. Attached to one slat is a metal bin to hold the seed and when the slats are pulled together one seed is extracted from the bin and falls through a tube on the inside of one of the slats into the opening in the ground. Painted (or printed) on the outside of one of the slats is "The Acme hand corn planter, patented Sept. 11, 1900" "Acme" in a circle, and "Polson Implement Co. Seattle-Portland-Spokane".
