Description

Senior Sing-along, 1975. These two black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show a group of mostly older adults engaged in a sing-along. Many of the participants are also playing various musical instruments. Image 30 shows a woman seated at a piano. The woman has an up-do haircut and glasses with a chain attached. She is wearing a dress with a geometric pattern. She appears to be playing the piano and singing. Her head and body are turned partially toward the right-hand side of the image. She is looking toward the camera. Image 31 is very similar to the previous image, but here the woman is facing toward the piano. She is shown in profile. Image 32 shows a woman holding up a typed document in front of her. This woman has short, loosely curly hair and is wearing glasses and a button-up shirt. She is shown in profile, facing toward the right-hand side of the image frame. A second woman beyond the one just described is visible looking to her right toward the camera. This woman has short hair and is wearing glasses. Image 33 shows a man at left playing a concertina and a man at right playing an A-style mandolin. Both men are seated. The man at left has hair parted toward his left and is wearing glasses. He is wearing a shirt with a pattern of cartoonish flowers. He is looking off toward the left of the camera. The man at right has his hair combed straight back and is wearing a short-sleeved, button-up shirt. He is looking toward the camera and smiling. Image 34 is similar to the previous image, but here the photographer has backed away or zoomed out from the two men. Here the man playing the concertina is looking off toward the right of the camera and the man with the mandolin is looking down at the mandolin. Both men appear to be playing their instruments. Image 35 shows a woman playing a washtub bass. This woman has medium-length curly hair and is wearing a horizontally-striped short-sleeved sweater, slacks, and shoes with buckles. She has he right foot up on the tub portion of the washtub bass. Her head and body are turned partially toward the right-hand side of the image frame. She is looking toward the camera and smiling. A second woman is seated to the left of the woman just described. Image 36 shows a woman playing an open-back banjo. This woman has shoulder-length, loosely curly hair and is wearing a cardigan over a blouse and a long skirt. Her head and body are turned partially toward the left-hand side of the image frame. She is looking toward the camera and smiling. Image 37 shows approximately twelve adults standing in a group. Most of the people are holding musical instruments. Image 38 is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 39 is very similar to the previous two images, but here the people appear to be playing their instruments. Image 40 is nearly identical to the previous image.
