Description

Nick Carr, 1974. This single black and white contact print strip was created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show a man (Nick Carr) posing for portrait-style photos, and the cover of a magazine titled "SPIDER." Image 34 shows Nick Carr, a balding man with glasses wearing a plaid jacket and patterned tie. His head and body are oriented toward the right-hand side of the image, but he is looking toward the camera and smiling. He is shown from the chest up. Image 35 is very similar to the previous image, but here Mr. Carr is not smiling. Image 36 is similar to image 35, but here Mr. Carr appears to have leaned backward slightly. image 37 shows the cover of a magazine entitled "SPIDER." An illustration on the cover of the magazine shows a man in a mask wearing a fedora and wielding two automatic pistols. A wanted poster is held between his teeth. Nick Carr was an avid local collector of 1930s pulp magazines featuring early superheroes. ("Who Knows What Evil Lurked?," Daily Olympian, 8/4/1971)
