Lacey Policeman, 1977. These three black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using three separate film rolls, and one of the physical numbers on the strips is repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images.
The images in group "a" show a man with a gun searching a second man. Image 20a shows one man laying face-down on a sidewalk while a second man holds a revolver pistol and searches the man on the ground. The man on the ground is at the center of the image, and the man with the gun is to the right of the man on the ground. The camera's line of sight is lined up with the route of the sidewalk. The man on the ground is wearing a baseball-style cap, a sweatshirt over a plaid shirt and jeans. The man with the gun is wearing glasses, a windbreaker-style jacket, slacks and boots. The man with the gun is reaching down with his left hand and touching the left upper thigh of the man on the ground. A man wearing a striped shirt and writing on a notepad is partially visible in the background along the right-hand edge of the image. A wooden set of stairs is partially visible at the left-hand side of the image. Two houses and four cars are visible in the background. Image 21a is very similar to the previous image, but here the man with the gun has moved toward the feet of the man on the ground. The man with the gun is reaching down to touch the upper right thigh on the man on the ground. Here a man wearing a fisherman-style cap and a windbreaker is visible standing on the stairs at the left-hand side of the image.
The images in group "b" show a man seated in the driver's seat of a police cruiser. All of the images are centered on the driver's side window of the cruiser, with only portions of the doors of the cruiser visible around the edges of the image. Image 12b shows the man seated in the cruiser and turning his head away from the camera. Image 13b is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 14b is very similar to the previous image, but here the man is holding a radio handset to his mouth. Image 15b is nearly identical to images 12b and 13b.
The images in group "c" show the center portion of a police cruiser from the passenger's side. There is a logo on the door of the cruiser with a square surrounded by a circle. The circle has one triangular element pointing toward the bottom left and one toward the top right. Text on the square portion of the logo reads "LACEY POLICE." Text on the circular portion reads "PREVENT CRIME" and "753-8111." Image 15c is identical to image 14c.Made/Created
