Description

Olympia Junior Women's Litter Pick-Up, 1973. These two black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show four women engaged in picking up litter on an island in Long Lake in Lacey, Washington. It is unclear if the island is Holmes Island or Kirby Island. Image 8 shows the four women standing on a path in a wooded area. The woman at left is bending over and looking into a garbage bag. The woman second from the left is facing away from the camera and holding a tree-branch like a walking stick. The woman second from right has her hands clasped together and has a worried look on her face. The woman at the right is looking down into a garbage bag which she is holding in her hands. Image 9 shows two of the women standing near the water. They are both holding garbage bags, and the woman at right is looking toward the camera. Images 10 through 12 are very similar to image 9. Image 13 again shows the two women near the water. The woman at the right is placing something into the garbage bag held by the other woman. Image 14 shows one woman standing very near to the water, holding a garbage bag in her hands. She is looking downward and bending forward slightly. Image 15 is very similar to image 14, but here the woman is standing upright. Image 16 is similar to the previous two images, but here the woman is bending forward and looking up toward the camera. Image 17 shows the four women standing at the waterline with a boat to their left. Two of the women are holding garbage bags.
