2007-012.B339PDescription
Sen's Contest First Nine, 1979. These five black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using two separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are duplicated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images.
The images in group "a" show eight different adults posing individually for portrait-style photos. All of these people are shown from the chest up. Image 8a shows a balding man with a beard wearing a collared, button-up shirt. He is pictured in front of a textured wall. He is smiling. Images 9a is very similar to the previous image, but here the man is smiling only slightly and his eyes are closed. Image 10a is very similar to the previous image, but here the man's eyes are open. Image 11a shows a man with straight bangs wearing what appears to be a chef's jacket. He is looking off toward the right of the camera and he is not smiling. Image 12a is very similar to the previous image, but here the man is looking toward the camera and smiling. Image 13a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 14a shows a man with medium-length hair and a goatee wearing a button-up shirt over a t-shirt. There is a name badge on the button-up shirt which reads "Tom." This man is smiling. Image 16a shows a woman with loosely curled hair wearing a v-neck top. This woman is looking off toward the left of the camera and has a large smile on her face. She is wearing a pinback button on her left breast which reads "MEMBER OF OLYMPIA SKATEBOARD PARK." This woman is pictured in front of a wood-paneled wall. Image 17a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 18a is very similar to the previous two images, but here the woman is looking toward the camera. Image 19a shows a woman with short hair wearing a plaid button-up shirt. The woman is looking toward the camera and smiling. She is pictured in front of a brick wall and a window. Image 20a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 21a shows a man with curly, medium-length hair wearing a shirt which reads "NORTH THURSTON" on the front. There is also a small portion of an illustration of a football visible below this text. This man is looking toward the camera and smiling. A pair of eyeglasses and a pack of cigarettes are partially visible sticking out of this pocket. The man is looking toward the camera and not smiling. Images 25a and 26a are very similar to the previous image, but here the man is smiling. Image 27a shows a man with medium-length, wavy hair and a mustache wearing glasses and a button-up shirt. He is looking toward the camera and smiling slightly. Image 28a is very similar to the previous image, but here the man's eyes are closed and he is tipping his head backward slightly.
