Description

Agnes Ulery and Unidentified People, Unknown Dates. These three black and white contact print strips was created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using two separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show two children looking at a display of taxidermied birds, and playing. Image 21a shows the side of a glass-front display case. The side facing the camera is made of wood. The items inside the case are not visible in this image. There is a potted fern and a sleeping cat on top of the display case. Image 22a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 23a shows two small children in winter coats looking at taxidermied birds in a display case. The child to the right is the younger of the two. This child is standing at the right-hand edge of the image and facing toward the cases, which are at the left-hand side of the image. The older of the two children has their face very close to the glass of the display case. Image 24a shows the younger child at the left-hand side of the image looking at the case and facing away from the camera. The older child is at the right-hand side of the image and is looking back at the camera and pointing toward the case. The children are shown from the waist up. Image 25a shows both of the children facing toward the case. The younger child is at the left. This image is oriented vertically, and the children are shown from the ankles up. Image 26a is similar to the previous image, but here the older child is crouching down in front of the case. Image 27a shows both children with their bodies oriented toward the display case, but with their heads turned back toward the camera. The older child is pointing toward the display case. Image 28a is similar to the previous image, but here the older child is facing toward the younger child. Image 29a shows the two children playing on the floor with two legless rocking chairs made to look like cartoon animals. Image 30a is blank. The images in group "b" show two different women in Lacey Police department uniforms working behind desks in an office. Image 28b shows one of the two women holding a telephone handset to her right ear with her left hand. She is writing something with her right hand. She is looking downward. She is wearing a police uniform with long sleeves and has a metal pin which reads "LPD" on the right side of her collar. Over this uniform she is wearing a vest. On this vest is a police badge and a nametag which reads "M. O'ROKE." The desk is fairly cluttered and a large file shelf is visible in the background. Image 28b is similar to the previous image, but here Ms. O'Roke is sitting more upright in her seat. Image 30b shows a woman in a very similar uniform, only with short sleeves, typing on a typewriter at a desk. Her nametag reads "AGNES ULERY." This image is oriented horizontally. Image 31b is nearly identical to the previous image, but here the image is oriented vertically. Image 32b shows Ms. Ulery still seated at her desk, but here the is holding a telephone handset to her left ear with her left hand. She is about to push a button on the telephone. The back of a person with a ponytail's head is occupying the lower-left corner of the image.
