Lakefair Queen, 1974. These four black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show the announcement of the 1974 Lakefair queen and the crowning ceremony. Image 41 shows a seated woman next to a boardwalk. The woman occupies the left-hand 1/3 of the image, and she is looking away from the camera. Image 42 shows four young women in formal wear. The young woman farthest from the camera is covering her mouth with her left hand. The young woman second farthest from the camera is reaching out to embrace the young woman covering her mouth. A man taking photographs is visible at the right-hand edge of the image frame. Image 43 shows the young woman who was covering her mouth in the previous image being hugged by the other three young women all at once. Image 44 shows a close-up view of the four young women standing in a close group. None of the young women are facing the camera. Image 1 shows one young woman in elbow-length gloves hugging a young woman wearing a tiara and a cape. Image 2 is very similar to the previous image, but here the young woman in the long gloves is grasping the left shoulder of the young woman in the tiara. Image 3 shows several young woman standing in a closer group. One young woman at the center of the image's face is visible. Image 4 shows two young women embracing. One of the women is facing toward the camera. Image 5 shows two young women facing each other. Image 6 shows two young women embracing. Image 7 shows one of the young women standing in front of a microphone on a microphone stand on a stage. One man is standing to either side of the young woman. All of these people are facing toward the right-hand side of the image. The man farthest from the camera is speaking into the microphone. Image 8 is very similar to the previous image, but here the two men are facing toward the young woman standing between them. The man farther from the camera is placing a tiara on the young woman's head. Image 9 shows a woman in a long cloak standing behind the young woman wearing the tiara. She appears to be adjusting the tiara. One man is to the right of the woman in the tiara. Image 10 shows the young woman in the tiara holding a bouquet of flowers. Three men in suits are standing nearby. Image 11 shows the young woman in the tiara holding an object up in front of her face. This object appears to be a microphone wrapped in a napkin. Image 12 shows the young woman holding the microphone in front of her face. Image 13 shows the young woman speaking into the microphone wrapped in a napkin. Here she is facing toward the left-hand side of the image. Image 14 shows a woman embracing the young woman with the tiara. A man in glasses appears to be speaking into the microphone. This man is facing toward the camera. Image 15 is very similar to the previous image, but here the man in glasses is facing toward the right-hand side of the image frame. Image 16 is very similar to the previous image, but here the man in glasses is facing away from the camera.
