Description

1949 Turner's Market Calendar with food freezing manual. Tri-fold calendar has a light blue front cover with fruits and vegetables in the background that reads: "Turners Market & Hardware Cold Storage Lockers * Phone 22204 * Lacey, Washington" and a small print pasted to the front titled "The Final Touch" with the painted image of three children, two older girls and boy inside a bathroom. The boy, who appears about 4 is sitting in a chair, a girl is at right in a green dress appears about 6 and is helping remove the boy's shoe, and the girl at left in a yellow dress is about 10. She is feeling the boy's forehead. The front cover bottom edge comes to a soft point in the center with this message: "Tuck Flap Under Pad for Neat Hanging. Patent Pending." This advice will allow the calendar to be hung with the advertisement for the store front and center throughout the year. Once the calendar is opened all the way, the center section reveals a twelve-page black and white booklet titled "Better Eating * Less Work * Greater Economy when you Freeze Foods the Modern Way" stapled in. The bottom section has the twelve calendar pages January through December in full color stapled to the cover. Each page features the month's birthstone in the upper left corner, the month's flower and the moon cycles in the upper right corner, a previous and next month calendar in miniature, and holidays and important historical dates marked with a picture instead of the date. Each Friday has a fish icon to likely remind Catholics to abstain from meat on Fridays. On the back of the calendar and on the lithograph print on the cover is a copyright notice for Louis F. Dow Co. St. Paul, Minnesota. On the back of the calendar pages, there is a page printed in blue tones (similar to the front) with a candle shining brightly next to the silhouette of a town and the words: "Best Wishes to You" and a holiday greeting below.
