Description

Becca Thompson, Miss Washington, 1976. These three black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show a young woman posing individually for portrait-style photos, three little girls in costumes, and one young woman (Becca Thompson) and two men posing next to a sandwich board which reads "SUPPORT BECCA FOR MISS WASHINGTON." Image 16 shows a young woman with shoulder-length hair wearing a dress with a pattern made up of many small, identical illustrations of two flowers with leafy stems. She is also wearing a beaded necklace with a stone pendant. Her head and body are turned partially toward the right-hand side of the image frame. She is smiling. She is shown from the mid-torso up. Image 17 is very similar to the previous image, but here the young woman's head and body are turned toward the left-hand side of the image. Image 18 is nearly identical to image 17. Image 19 shows three little girls dressed in costumes. The girl on the left is the shortest of the three. She has curly hair with several bows in it and is wearing a onesie with fringe and the wrists and waist. She is smiling and her arms are raised, with elbows bent. The girl at center is wearing a onesie along with animal-print cat ears, a very large bow at the neck, and a tail. The girl at the right has long, straight hair and is wearing an outfit identical to the girl on the left. This girl on the right has her hands lifted up over head and her elbows bent. Image 20 is nearly identical to image 19. Image 23 shows one young woman (Becca Thompson) and two men posing with a sandwich board. The three people are standing in a row behind the sandwich board. At left is a man in a button-up shirt. At center is a man with a mustache wearing a zippered, hooded sweatshirt. At right is a young woman with long, wavy hair wearing a dress with a corsage at the neck, a cardigan and a sash which reads "LACEY FESTIVAL QUEEN." The sandwich board reads "SUPPORT BECCA FOR MISS WASHINGTON." This image was captured in a large parking lot with large coniferous trees in the background. This image is oriented vertically and all of the people are shown from head to toe. Images 24 through 26 are nearly identical to image 23. Image 27 is very similar to the previous images, but here the three people are shown from the knees up. This image is oriented horizontally. Images 28 through 30 are nearly identical to image 27.
