Description

Homes of the Year, 1975. These twelve black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using three separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show the exterior of a single-storey, rambler-style home with an attached garage on the right-hand side. The home is L-shaped, with the part extending toward the camera on the left-hand side. The left-hand side which extends toward the camera has a brick facade on either end of the wall facing the camera. There is a large, three-piece window at the center of the house, and the front door is to the left of this window. Image 6a shows the house with a perspective looking form near to the right-hand end of the house and looking across toward the left-hand end of the house. A light post is visible at the left-hand edge of the image. Image 7a is nearly identical to image 6a. Image 8a shows the house. The photographer appears to be standing in the road in front of the house and he is standing to the right-of-center in relation to the house. A short evergreen tree is in the foreground of the image and is obscuring a portion of the attached garage. A portion of the left-hand end of the house is beyond the left-hand edge of the image. Image 9a shows the house from a similar perspective to that seen in the previous image, but here the photographer has backed away or zoomed out from the house. The entirety of the front side of the house is visible. Image 10a is very similar to image 9a, but here the photographer has panned to the right very slightly. Image 11a shows the inside of the L-corner of the home. This image was captured from the driveway of the home. Image 21a shows the house from a position in the road beyond the left-hand side on the home. Several trees and bushes partially obscure the left-hand portion of the house which extends forward toward the road. Image 22a is nearly identical to image 21a. Image 23a shows the house from a position centered on the front of the house. The entirety of the front side of the house is visible in this image. The single-storey wings both have brick facades. Image 2b is mostly cut off, but appears to show a window looking onto a parking lot. A fern in a hanging basket is in the window.
