Unidentified People, Unknown Dates. These seventeen black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using several separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, the strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. These groups will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images,
The images in group "a" show a seated man posing individually for photos. Image 34a shows a man in a blazer and diagonally-striped tie posing individually for a photo. His hair is parted to his right and he has sideburns. His head and body are turned slightly toward the left-hand side of the image frame. His mouth is opened slightly. He is shown from the mid-torso up. Image 35a shows the man from the knees-up. He is seated in a chair with wooden arms. His lips are pursed. Image 36a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 37a is very similar to the previous image, but here the man's mouth is opened slightly. He appears to be speaking. Image 38a is very similar to the previous image, but here the man appears to be laughing.
Image 39a shows the man still seated in a chair, but here his head and body are turned almost all of the way toward the right-hand side of the image. He is smiling slightly and appears to be speaking. His hands are clasped in front of him. He is shown from the waist up. Image 40a is very similar to the previous image, but here the man's head is turned more toward the camera and he is laughing. Image 41 is very similar to image 39a, but here the man is crossing his legs. His right knee is in the lower-right corner of the image. Image 42a shows the man facing toward the camera and speaking. His hands are open with palms facing upward. Image 43a is very similar to the previous image, but here the man is not gesturing with his hands.
The images in group "b" show a woman and two men posing for photos. Image 3b shows a woman with short or tied-back hair parted toward her right wearing a very long beaded necklace and loose-fitting top. Her head and body are turned slightly toward the left-hand side of the image. She is smiling and looking toward the camera. She is shown from the waist up. Her arms are positioned in such a way that suggests that her hands are clasped together, but her hands are below the bottom edge of the image frame. Images 4b and 5b are nearly identical to image 3b. Image 6b shows a man with wavy, combed-back hair wearing glasses and a polo shirt with many small decorative elements which resemble sheaves of grain on it. The man is shown from the waist up. Based on his posture, he appears to be seated. His hands are below the bottom edge of the image frame; but based on the position of his arms, his hands are likely clasped. Image 7b is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 9 shows the woman shown in images 3b through 5b and the man in images 6b through 8b posing together for photos. The woman is on the left and the man is on the right. Both people are shown from the waist up. The woman's arms appears to be clasped in front of her, and the man's hands are behind his back. A lamp is visible in the lower-right corner of this image. An open doorway is visible at the left-hand edge of the image. A portion of a desk or counter are visible through this doorway. Image 10b is nearly identical to image 9b. Image 18b shows a man with wavy, medium-length hair wearing a blazer and a tie. His head and body are oriented directly toward the camera, and he is looking toward the camera. His mouth is opened very slightly. His arms are behind his back. He is shown from the waist up. Images 19b and 20b are nearly identical to the previous image.
The images in group "c" show three women and one man posing individually for photos. Image 33c shows an older woman with wavy hair in an up-do wearing a floral-print dress with a matching jacket. The woman is seated, and her body is turned slightly toward the right-hand edge of the image. Her head is turned toward the camera, she is looking toward the camera, and she is smiling. She is shown from the waist up. Image 30c (image 33c was cut off from the rest of this strip at one point, then taped back on the wrong end) is nearly identical to image 33c. Image 31c is very similar to the previous two images, but here the woman is not smiling. Image 32c is nearly identical to images 33c and 30c. Image 40c shows a woman with shin-length hair parted toward her right wearing a top with elbow-length sleeves and a polo-style collar. This shirt has stripes at the end of the sleeves and at the chest. She is also wearing a scarf tied around her neck. Her head and body are oriented toward the camera. She is looking toward the camera and smiling. She is shown from the waist up. Images 41c and 42c are nearly identical to image 40c. Image 43c shows a woman with jaw-length hair parted near the center waring a v-neck sweater over a shirt with a large collar. Her head and body are turned partially toward the right-hand side of the image frame. She is shown from the waist up. Images 44c and 1c are nearly identical to image 43c. Image 2c shows a man with wavy hair parted toward his right and a medium-length beard wearing a horizontally-striped sweater over a collared shirt. His head and body are oriented directly toward the camera. He is looking toward the camera and not smiling. He is shown from the waist up. Image 3c is very similar to the previous image, but here the man is smiling slightly. Image 4c is nearly identical to the previous image.
The images in group "d" show one man and two women posing indivdually for photos. Image 41d shows a man with combed-back hair parted toward his right wearing a blazer and tie posing for a photo. His head and body are turned slightly toward the right-hand side of the image frame. He is looking toward the camera and not smiling. Image 42d is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 43d shows a woman with very wavy, chin-length hair wearing a blazer over a button-up shirt. Her head and body are oriented directly toward the camera. She is looking at the camera and smiling. She is shown from the mid-torso up. She is standing in front of a wood-paneled wall. Images 44d and 1d are nearly identical to the previous image. Image 2d shows a woman with slightly wavy hair which goes past her shoulders. She is wearing a blazer over a polka-dotted shirt with a frill at the collar. She is smiling and her eyes are closed. She is shown from the mid-torso up. Image 3d is very similar to the previous image, but here the woman's eyes are opened. Image 4d is very similar to image 3d, but here the woman's face is turned more toward the camera.
The images in group "e" show a balding man with a beard posing for photos. The man is wearing a plaid, short-sleeved, button-up shirt. There are a pair of glasses and a pen in his shirt pocket. His head and body are turned partially toward the left-hand side of the image frame, and his arms are crossed. These strips are very dark, making the physical numbers on the strips unreadable. For the purposes of this description, these images will be numbered 1e-7e, starting from the top of the strip with four images and proceeding downward to the bottom image on the strip with three images. Image 1e shows the man looking toward the camera and smiling. Image 2e is very similar to the previous image, but here the man is not smiling. Images 3e and 4e are nearly identical to image 2e. Image 5e is very similar to the previous images, but here a dark area on the image obscured the man's face. Image 6e is similar to the previous images, but here the man is laughing and tipping his head forward sligthly. Image 7e is nearly identical to image 1e.
The images in group "f" show a woman holding a kitten, a man in a suit, and a woman in front of a building under renovation all individually posing for photos. Image 18f shows a man (Ed Jeffries) in a suit posing for a photo. The man's hair is combed backward. His body is oriented toward the camera, but his head is turned partially toward the left-hand side of the image frame. He is looking toward the camera and smiling. His hands are clasped in front of him. Image 19f shows a woman with very long, slightly wavy hair holding a kitten with her right arm. The woman is wearing overalls over a short-sleeved, collared shirt. She has a purse strap over her left shoulder. The woman's head and body are oriented directly toward the camera. She has a suprrised look on her face, and the cat appears to be meowing. Image 20f is very similar to the previous image, but here the woman has a large smile on her face and the cat's mouth is closed. Image 41f shows a woman with short, slightly wavy hair wearing a long, buttoned jacket over a collared top. She is standing is front of a two-storey building with its front exterior under heavy renovation. The woman's head and body are turned most of the way toward the right-hand side of the image. Her right hand is on her hip, and her left hand appears to be in her jacket pocket. Image 42f is very similar to the previous image, but here the woman's head is turned toward the camera. She is smiling. Image 43f is very similar to the previous image, but her the woman has her left hand held up to the left side of her head. Image 44f is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 45f shows two men working on the front exterior of the building. They appear to be framing a wall on top of the single-storey section on the front of the building.
The images in group "g" show a seated woman posing for photos. The woman has fairly short hair which flares outward at cheekbone level. She is wearing a blazer over a collared, button-up shirt. The woman is seated in a chair with a concrete-block wall behind her. Image 13g shows the woman laughing. Her head and body are turned toward the left-hand side of the image frame, and she is looking toward the left-hand side of the image frame. She is shown from the chest up. A door is partially visible along the left-hand edge of the image, and a cork board with a penant flag pinned to it are partially visible at the right-hand side of the image frame. This image is oriented horizontally. Image 14g is nearly identical to the previous image, but here the woman is not smiling. Her mouth is opened slightly. Image 15g is very similar to image 14g, but here the image is oriented vertically. The woman is visible from roughly the waist up. The door and cork board are not visible in this image. Image 16g is nearly identical to image 15g. Image 17g is nearly identical to image 14g.
The images is group "h" show two men is suits and ties posing for photos. Image 1h shows a bald man with glasses and a mustache wearing a blazer with a diagonally-striped tie. He is smiling. His head and body are oriented directly toward the camera, and he is shown from the waist up. Image 2h is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 3h shows a different man with glasses wearing a blazer with a diagonally-striped tie posing for a photo. His hands are below the bottom edge of this image frame, but based on the position of his arms, his arms appear to be clasped in front of him. Images 4h and 5h are nearly identical to image 3h.
The images in group "i" show a man with a mustache wearing a button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled to the elbow, a vest, and a tie seated at a desk. There is a name plate on the desk in front of the man which reads "DANIEL E. TRAUTMAN" and "MINISTER." There is a framed painting of Jesus on the wall behind the man. There are drapes to either side of the painting. All of these images 16i through 19i are all nearly identical.Made/Created
