Description

Lyle Parsons Bell Ringing, 1975. These two black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show a man (Lyle Parsons) ringing a bell mounted on a a very tall wooden frame. Image 19 shows the tall wooden frame with the bell at the top. Tall, coniferous trees are in the background. Mr. Parson's is partially visible holding onto the rope attached to the bell. Mr. Parsons is partially obscured by one of the legs of the frame. Image 20 is very similar to the previous image, but here Mr. Parsons is not obscured behind a leg of the frame. Image 21 is similar to image 20, but here the photographer has moved further away from Mr. Parsons' and the bell structure. Image 22 looks upward at the bell from within the frame on which the bell sits. Mr. Parsons' head, chest and right arm are visible in the lower-left quadrant of this image. Image 23 is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 24 is very similar to the previous two images, but here Mr. Parsons has moved slightly more into the image frame. Image 25 shows Mr. Parsons pulling the rope attached to the bell. His right arm is extended almost fully upward, and he is also looking upward. Mr. Parsons is visible from the mid-thigh up. Only one leg of the frame holding the bell is visible in this image. Mr. Parsons' body is oriented toward the camera. Image 26 is very similar to the previous image, but here the photographer has moved to their right slightly. Image 27 is similar to the previous two images, but here the photographer has moved to Mr. Parson's right-hand side. Mr. Parsons' head is mostly obscured behind his raised right arm. Lyle Parsons was the chairman of the Tumwater School Board, suggesting that the bell he is ringing in these images is at one of the Tumwater Schools.
