Description

Building MAD Festival Float, 1975. This single black and white contact print strip was created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show one woman and four men (one of whom is Floyd Pugh) working on the very early stages of a parade float in a parking lot. Image 13 shows three of the men and the one woman standing in the left-hand half of the image near a fire truck. The fourth man, who is shirtless, is on the right-hand side of the image and appears to be removing nails from a railroad tie with a claw hammer. Image 14 shows one young man standing on a low, flat-bed trailer attached to a semi truck tractor unit. He is bending forward and using a claw hammer to remove nails from a railroad tie. Another young man is standing to the right of the trailer and looking toward the first young man. A young woman is partially visible along the right-hand edge of the image. Floyd Pugh is visible near the left-hand edge of the image frame. Image 15 is very similar to the previous image, but here there is a second man standing next to Floyd Pugh. The young woman is not visible within this image. Image 16 shows the young man still standing on the semi trailer and pulling nails. Floyd Pugh is standing to the right of the trailer, smoking a tobacco pipe, and manipulating a long, very thin rod. The young woman is partially visible behind Mr. Pugh.
