Description

Farmer's Market, 1976. These four black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show vendors and customers attending a farmer's market. This farmer's market took place in a very large parking lot. Image 42 shows a man holding a head of lettuce and talking to two women. A little boy is standing in front of the two women. The man is at left, and he is balding and wearing glasses. He is also wearing a suit and tie. He is holding the lettuce in his left hand and his right hand is in his pocket. The woman at center is wearing a sun hat and a large apron. The woman at right is wearing a sweater and a small scarf tied around her neck. The little boy is wearing a sweatshirt. A vendor stall is behind the two women, and the stall is advertising lettuce. A man with glasses and a mustache is standing behind the stall's counter. The two women are looking at each other. Image 43 is very similar to the previous image, but here both women are looking at the man holding the lettuce. Image 44 is similar to the previous two images, but here the man holding the lettuce is looking at the camera. The woman at center is looking down at the lettuce. Image 1 shows the man with the lettuce and the two women looking down at the lettuce. Image 2 shows two different stalls selling flowers. At the stall on the left is a woman sitting on a stool and reading. At the stall on the right are two older women and one older man. Image 3 is similar to the previous image, but here the photographer has panned to their right. Image 4 shows a man in glasses with a buzz cut standing next to a vendor's stall selling lettuce, flowers and bags which read "Farmer's Market" on the side. Image 5 is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 6 shows a small cage with two chickens inside. There is a sign on the cage which reads "BANTY CHICKENS" selling for 75 cents. Image 7 is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 29 shows a woman in a bonnet seated next to a table advertising portrait sketches. The woman is on the left-hand side of the image, and her table is on the right. There are examples of her work on the table. Image 30 is very similar to the previous image, but here the photographer has moved away from the woman. Image 31 is virtually identical to image 30. Image 31 shows a banner attached to the windshield of a car. The banner reads "FARMER'S MARKET" with an arrow pointing toward the right. Image 32 is very similar to the previous image, but here the photographer has moved to their right slightly. Image 33 shows a man with a bushy beard and glasses wearing a baseball cap. He is standing with his arms crossed on the left-hand side of the image. On the right-hand side of the image is a pickup truck pointing away from the camera. There are boxes of produce in the back of the truck. A young man is sitting on top of the truck's cab. Image 34 shows a different man with glasses and a bushy beard standing in front of a vendor's stall. He is standing on the right-hand side of the stall. This vendor is selling potted plants. Image 35 is nearly identical to the previous image. These images were created for inclusion with an article concerning the opening of the second year of the Olympia Farmer's Market.
