Description

Working Women, 1976. These three black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images individually show five women and one man either in office settings or posing for portrait-style photos. Image 2 shows a woman seated at a desk speaking on a telephone and holding a writing utensil in her right hand. She has an up-do haircut and is wearing glasses and a short-sleeved jacket over a long-sleeved sweater. The woman is looking at the camera and appears slightly alarmed. Image 3 shows a man with a beard and glasses standing in an office. The image is blurry. The man's right hand is near his face. He is shown from the chest up. There is a framed painting on the wall behind him. Image 4 shows a woman (Chris Deskins) with medium-length, curly hair posing for a portrait photo. The is wearing a polka-dotted blouse with a bow at the neck. She is wearing a nametag which reads "Chris Deskins" and "Sales Director, Greenwood Inn." Her head and body are turned partially toward the right-hand side of the image, and she is looking toward the camera and smiling. She is shown from the mid-torso up. Image 5 is nearly identical to image 4. Image 6 is very similar to the previous two images, but here Ms. Deskins' head and body are turned partially toward the left-hand side of the image. Image 7 is nearly identical to image 6. Image 8 shows a woman with collar bone-length, slightly wavy hair posing for photos. She is wearing a shirt with ties in place of buttons. Her head is turned slightly toward the right-hand side of the image frame, and she is looking toward the camera and smiling. She is shown from the mid-torso up. Image 9 is very similar to the previous image but here, she is not smiling. Image 10 is very similar to the previous image, but here the woman's head and body are turned partially toward the left-hand side of the image frame. Image 11 is very similar to image 10, but here the woman appears to be speaking. Image 36 shows a woman with short, wavy hair and glasses seated in a chair. She is wearing a jacket with a mandarin collar and a tie belt at the waist. Her head and body are turned most of the way toward the left-hand side of the image. She appears to be seated on her chair sideways, with her right elbow resting on the back of the chair. Image 37 is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 38 is blank. Image 39 shows a woman with very curly hair wearing glasses and a forest or jungle-type patterned, button-up shirt over a half-turtleneck sweater. She is seated at a desk, and a typewriter is visible to the left of the woman. She is shown from the chest up. She is looking toward the camera. Image 40 is similar to the previous image, but here the woman has turnedher body toward the left-hand side of the image and she is primping her hair. A row of filing cabinets is visible behind the woman.
