Wood, metal, and glass stereoscope and slides. This model is known as a Holmes Stereoscope for its inventer, Oliver Wendell Holmes. A long flat piece of wood has attached by screws a viewing hood which consists of an eye enclosure and a metal frame holding two glass lenses. On the flat piece beyond the hood is a vertical piece of wood between the lenses. There is a square piece of wood with wires to hold slides perpendicular to the flat piece that moves back and forth. Underneath the flat piece is a folding handle. There are 117 slides with two images on each that permit a view through the lenses to appear three dimensional.Made/Created
