Description

Unidentified People, 1976. These six black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using two separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show two men and one woman posing individually for photos, and two offices. Image 1a shows a man with short, wavy hair in a suit and paisley tie posing for a portrait-style photo. His head and body are turned slightly toward the right-hand side of the image. He is looking toward the camera and smiling. Image 2a is very similar to the previous image, but here the man's head and body are turned toward the left-hand side of the image. Image 3a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 4a shows the corner of an office desk. A wooden chair is partially visible in the upper-left quadrant of the image. Image 17a shows two rectangular, open-topped boxes filled with documents sitting on a desk. A person with long hair wearing a patterned sweater is partially visible at the right-hand side of the image seated at the desk. A typewriter is visible near the left-hand edge of the image. Image 18a shows a man with fairly short, curly hair wearing glasses, a striped tie and a button-up shirt posing for a portrait-style photo. His head and body are turned partially toward the right-hand side of the image. He is looking off toward the right of the camera. He is smiling. Image 19a is very similar to the previous image, but here the man is not smiling. Image 20a is very similar to the previous image, but here he is smiling slightly. Image 21a is very similar to the previous image, but here the man is turned toward the left-hand side of the image frame. Image 24a shows a woman with curly hair wearing a floral-print jacket over a half-turtleneck sweater posing for a portrait-style photo. She is looking toward the camera and smiling. Image 25a is very similar to the previous image, but here the woman is not smiling and is looking off toward the right of the camera. Image 26a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 27a is blank. Image 28a is nearly identical to image 24a. The images in group "b" show two men and one woman posing individually for portrait-style photos, and one man standing in a restaurant. Image 21b shows a man with short, wavy hair and a mustache wearing a Lacey Police Department uniform posing for a portrait-style photo. His head and body are turned toward the left-hand side of the image frame. He is looking toward the camera and not smiling. Image 22b is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 23b is very similar to the previous image, but here the man is turned toward the right-hand side of the image frame. Image 24b is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 26b shows a woman with straight, medium-length hair wearing a turtleneck sweater and a plaid coat posing for a portrait-style photo. Her head and body are partially turned toward the right-hand side of the image frame. She is looking toward the camera and smiling. Image 27b is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 28b is very similar to the previous two images, but here the woman's head and body are turned slightly toward the left-hand side of the image frame. Image 29b is nearly identical to image 28b. Image 30b shows a man with straight, medium-length hair wearing a long-sleeved polo shirt posing for a portrait-style photo. He also has what appears to be a whistle or dog tag hanging around his neck. This man is likely Jim Manning. His head and body are turned partially toward the right-hand side of the image frame. He is looking toward the camera and smiling. Image 42b shows a man with medium-length, straight hair wearing glasses and a suit and tie standing in a restaurant. The man is shown from the mid-torso up. Many set tables several windows are visible in the background. This image is oriented horizontally. Image 43b is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 44b is very similar to the previous image, but here the image is oriented vertically. Image 1b is nearly identical to images 42b and 43b. Image 2b is nearly identical to image 44b. Printed in alternation along one long edge of each of these film rolls is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."
