Various Lacey Government Buildings, Unknown Dates. These six black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using two separate film strips, so some of the physical numbers are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images.
The images in group "a" show the Lacey Fire Department building, the Lacey Police Department building (then housed in the Russel House), the Lacey City Hall and the Lacey Area Chamber of Commerce building. Image 14a shows the back side of the Lacey Fire Department at left, and the back side of the Lacey Police Department at right. Both buildings are two storeys. There are five cars and three pickup trucks parked behind the two buildings. Images 15a through 19a are nearly identical to image 14a. Image 30a shows the front side of the Lacey City Hall. It is a small, single-storey building with a flat roof. Image 31a is very similar to the previous image, but here the photographer has moved closer to, or zoomed in on, the building. Image 32a shows the Lacey Area Chamber of Commerce building. It is a small, single-storey building with a flat roof. Image 33a is similar to the previous image, but here the photographer has moved approximately 40 feet to their left. Image 34a shows the Lacey Area Chamber of Commerce building at left, the Lacey City Hall at center in the background, and portions of the police station and fire station at right. Image 35a is similar to the previous image, but here the photographer has moved approximately 80 feet to their left. The fire department and police station are fully inside the image frame. Image 36a shows the chamber of commerce building a left and the city hall in the background on the right. Image 37a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 38a shows a portion of the front of the Lacey Police Department. The photographer is standing on the walkway leading to the front door. Image 39a shows the full front side of the police station. Image 40a shows a portion of the front of the police station and a portion of a side of the fire department. Image 41a shows most of the front side of the police department.
The images in group "b" show a flagpole, Lenny Wilkens speaking at a podium, Lenny Wilkens and Karen Fraser doing a ribbon cutting, Karen Fraser, Father John Scott, Lenny Wilkens and an unknown man posing for photos, a location of the Lacey Public Library, and the front of a house. Image 15b shows a flagpole with 2-3 flags on it. The wind is not blowing, so the flags are hanging limply. Image 16b shows Lenny Wilkens speaking into a microphone at a podium. The front of the podium reads "CITY OF LACEY." Partially visible behind Mr. Wilkens is a man who appears to be Bill Bush. Image 16b shows Karen Fraser (at left) and Lenny Wilkens (at right) preparing to cut a ribbon with an oversized pair of scissors. Visible in a reflection to the right of Mr. Wilkens is a group of people and a kneeling photographer. Image 18b is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 19b shows, from left to right: an unknown man, Karen Fraser, Father John Scott and Lenny Wilkens. The four are all smiling and looking toward the camera. There is a forest in the background. There is what appears to be a light pole behind Ms. Fraser. Image 41b shows the front of the Lacey Public Library, likely when it was located in a storefront in the Lacey Village Shopping Center. Images 42b through 44b are nearly identical to image 41b. Image 1b shows the front and left side of a single-storey, rambler-style home. A car parked in the driveway and an Evergreen Olympic Real Estate in the yard are visible at the left-hand edge of the image frame.
Printed at intervals along one long edge of both of these film negative strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM 5063."Made/Created
