Firefighters, Unknown Date. This single black and white film negative strip was created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show a firefighting demonstration/event in a parking lot. The parking lot appears to be that of South Sound Center. Image 37 shows what appears to be a Ford Model T automobile with a driver, a man in the passenger seat, and a person with long hair riding on the back. There is text written on the car in various places, such as McLane District "9" along the front edge of the car's roof. Image 38 shows a small boat engulfed in flames. The boat is laying on the concrete in the parking lot. A firefighter with a fire extinguisher is standing approximately six feet to the right of the flaming boat. Another boat, not on fire, is to the left of the burning boat. Image 39 is similar to the previous image, but here three firefighters are spraying the burning boat with fire extinguishers. Image 40 is similar to the previous image, but here the photographer has moved closer to the boats and to the left slightly. All three firefighters are still spraying the fire with the fire extinguishers. Image 41 is very similar to the previous image, but here only one firefighter is still spraying the fire. The fire has partially subsided. Image 42 is very similar to the previous image, but here the photographer has moved closer to the firefighter spraying the boat.
The McLane Fire Department was organized in 1950 in the area near Mud Bay. It later combined with the Black Lake Fire Department. (https://www.mclanefire.org/index.php/about-us/history
