Lacey Leader Offices, Unknown Dates. These eight black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show exterior shots of both the original Lacey Leader office located at 4003 8th Avenue SE in Lacey, and the home which was converted into their second office. These images were created using five separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images.
The images in group "a" show a man (Ed Bagley) in a suit and tie posing in front of the second Lacey Leader office. Image 13a shows Ed Bagley standing to the left of a large sign in the yard in front of the office. His left hand is touching the sign. The sign reads "FUTURE SITE OF Your NEWSPAPER Lacey Leader." The sign is centered in the image. A portion of the Lacey Leader office is visible at the left-hand edge of the image. This image is oriented horizontally. Image 14a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 15a is very similar to the previous image, but here the image is oriented vertically. Image 16a is nearly identical to image 15a. Image 17a is nearly identical to images 13a and 14a. Image 18a is nearly identical to image 15a. Image 19a is nearly identical to image 17a. Image 24a is similar to the previous images, but here the photographer has moved backward by approximately 10 feet. Here Mr. Bagley is no longer touching the sign. The entirety of the front of the office is visible in this image. The front door of the office building is off the hinges, and a ladder and pieces of wood are leaning up against the house. Image 25a is very similar to image 24a, but here a portion of a passing car is visible in the lower-left quadrant of the image. Images 26a and 27a are nearly identical to image 24a.
The images in group "b" also show the exterior of the second Lacey Leader office. Image 31b shows the office from a distance. The photographer appears to be standing on the sidewalk across from the office. The office is in the top-left quadrant of the image. A large apartment building is to the right of the building. Image 32b shows a man raking the yard outside of the office while a second man watches. Image 33b shows the front of the office. A man is visible raking the yard to the left of the office. Image 34b shows a sign which reads "Lacey Leader" and shows a phone number. The sign has an arrow pointing to the right toward the office. Image 35b shows the front of the office. Portions of several cars are visible along the right-hand edge of the image. Image 5b shows the office with two cars and two Volkswagen vans parked in front of it. One man and two women are standing amongst the vehicles and waving at the camera. Image 6b is very similar to the previous image, but here the three people are not waving. Images 7b and 8b are nearly identical to image 6b.
The images in group "c" show three women and five men (two of which are Ken Balsley and Ed Bagley) posing together for a group photo in front of the original Lacey Leader office. The people shown are holding various objects such as: an issue of the Lacey Leader newspaper, a candlestick and a typewriter. The people in the image are in various poses meant to be humorous. Images 24c through 28c are all very similar, with the people shown in different poses. In image 27c, a man is walking in front of the group with a box on a dolly.
The images in group "d" show the front of the original Lacey Leader office with four cars parked in front. All of these images (29d - 31d) are nearly identical to each other.
The images in group "e" show an unknown man in a suit and tie standing in front of the original Lacey Leader office. Image 15e shows the man facing toward the left-hand side of the image frame and looking into the distance. Image 16e shows the man leaning forward with one hand resting on a car's hood in front of him. Here he is looking toward the camera. Image 17e is nearly identical to the previous image.
