Description

North Thurston/Timberline Merit Semi-Finalists, 1973. These six black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using two separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show five different young people posing individually for photos. Image 36a shows a young woman with shoulder-length, wavy hair wearing a sweater with a pattern made up of small cherry illustrations on it. Her head and body are turned toward the left-hand side of the image. She is smiling, and is shown from the chest up. Grass and trees are visible in the background. Image 37a is very similar to the previous image, but here the image is oriented vertically. The young woman is visible from the mid-torso up. This image is oriented horizontally. The side of a building, which appears to be a school, is partially visible along the right-hand edge of the image frame. Image 42a shows a young woman with long, straight hair parted at the center wearing a dress with a large, plaid collar. Her head and body are turned toward the left-hand side of the image frame, and she is smiling. She is shown from the mid-chest up. The background is the same is in image 41a.
