Description

Black and white negative of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge under construction. In the foreground is grass or dirt, several trees, and some people standing. In the middle distance is the East Tower and further back is another tower. Suspension cables are strung between the towers and off to the right of the image. There are what appear to be railings on the cables. Above the cables are wires strung between the towers with separators fixed on them. The far shore is visible in the background. There is a white border on all sides, and in the bottom border is "#2008" and "1/20/40". The negative is inserted, along with a print of the image, into a cream colored envelope that has typed "January 20, 1940 Narrows Bridge at Tacoma East Tower -- cable partly completed". Stamped is "2008" and "indexed".
