Lakefair, 1980. These two black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show a toddler in the crowd at the Lakefair parade, the crowd watching the Lakefair Queen pageant, and young women participating in the Lakefair Queen pageant. Image 44 shows a toddler in a baseball cap, baseball jersey and shorts holding an oblong balloon with both hands. He is looking back over his right shoulder toward the people seated along the edge of the road on the left-hand side of the image. The toddler is standing several feet into the road from the curb. Image 1 shows the toddler seated on the curb. Other people and a balloon are visible around the boy. The boy is still holding his balloon. Image 2 is very similar to the previous image, but here the toddler is standing up. He is holding the balloon in front of his waist. Image 3 is very similar to the previous image, but here the boy is holding his balloon up above his head in his right hand. Image 4 shows the toddler smiling and walking toward the camera. Image 27 sows three older men and one older woman seated in chairs. A lifeguard's chair is visible behind these people. The top of the Washington State Capitol building is visible in the far background between the heads of the rightmost two people. Image 28 shows a set of seating stands filled with people. Between the stands and the photographer is a body of water (Capitol Lake). Image 29 shows a young woman wearing a tiara and a long cape speaking into a microphone. This young woman is shown from head to toe and is facing directly toward the right-hand side of the image frame. Image 30 shows four seated young women in pageant gowns holding bouquets. Five men in suits are standing behind the young women. The three rightmost young women seem ecstatic. The young woman on the far left appears confused. A man in glasses holding his hand to his forehead is partially visible at the left-hand edge of the image. Image 31 is very similar to the previous image, but here the photographer has panned to their right slightly. The three rightmost young women appear to be congratulating the young woman on the far left. The man holding his hand to his forehead is fully visible here.Made/Created
