Description

Unidentified People, Unknown Dates. These five black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using two separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips have been duplicated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each strip will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show two teenage boys and one little girl posing individually for photos, a man playing a trombone, a little girl holding up a sign, two women posing individually for photos. Image 42a shows a young man with short, very curly hair wearing a button-up shirt with a houndstooth pattern on it. His head and torso are turned partially toward the right-hand side of the image. He is looking toward the camera and not smiling. He is shown from the mid-torso up. Image 43a is very similar to the previous image, but here the young man is smiling slightly. Image 44a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 1a shows a man with hair parted toward his right wearing glasses and a suit and playing a trombone. His head and body are oriented directly toward the camera. The trombone is also pointed directly toward the camera. He is shown from the waist up. Image 8a is very similar to the previous image, but here the man is shown from the shoulders up. Image 9a shows a little girl with long pigtails wearing a collared shirt. Her head and body are turned partially toward the right-hand side of the image. She is looking over toward the camera and not smiling. Image 10a is very similar to the previous image, but here she is smiling. Image 11a is very similar to the previous image, but here the girl's eyes are partially closed. Image 12a is very similar to the previous image, but here she is not smiling and appears to be speaking. Image 13a is similar to the previous image, but here the girl is frowning slightly. Image 16 shows a girl with straight, fairly long hair wearing a ribbed dress over a turtleneck sweater and holding up a sign. The sign reads "Turn off today" and "So you can turn on tomorrow." The sign has an illustration of a hand pulling on a small chain hanging from a light bulb. The sign is on the left-hand side of the image and the girl is on the right-hand side. There is a clock radio on a countertop immediately below the sign. Image 17a is blank. Image 18a shows a woman with straight, shoulder-length hair and glasses wearing a short-sleeved, button-up top. Her head and torso are turned partially toward the left-hand side of the image frame. She is looking toward the camera and smiling. She is shown from the waist up. Image 19a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 20a shows a very blurry shot of what appears to be counters or desks. Image 21a shows a can sitting on a countertop. The can's label reads "Texsun UNSWEETENED Pink GRAPEFRUIT JUICE." Image 34a shows a woman with a bouffant haircut wearing cat eye glasses and a polo-style shirt. Her head and torso are turned directly toward the camera. She is not smiling and her eyes are closed. She is shown from the mid-torso up. Image 35a shows the woman with her head and torso turned partially toward the left-hand side of the image frame. Here she is smiling and her eyes are opened. The images in group "b" show a teenage boy with short, slightly wavy hair wearing tinted glasses and a vertically-striped, button-up shirt. He is shown from the mid-chest up in all of the images. Image 18b shows the boy facing directly toward the camera and not smiling. Image 19b shows the boy with his head and shoulders turned slightly toward the left-hand side of the image frame. Image 20b shows the boy with his head turned slightly more toward the left-hand side of the image frame. He is also smiling very slightly. Image 21b shows the young man turned partially toward the right-hand side of the image frame. He is smiling. Printed in alternation along one long edge of all of these strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."
