School Christmas Scene, 1980. These three black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show Christmas decorations in an elementary school classroom, and children making Christmas decorations in an elementary school classroom. Image 9 shows a Christmas display inside a glass-front display case. At the center of the display case is a cardboard fireplace with a small toy car sitting on top of the mantel. Above the mantle is a hanging banner which reads "MERRY CHRISTMAS." To the left of the fireplace is a cartoon Santa Claus. A stick-horse is leaning on the wall to the right of the fireplace. Other toys and stuffed animals are arrayed along the bottom of the display case. The display case itself is inset into the wall. Image 10 shows a window covered in paper Christmas craft items. The door is visible immediately to the right of the window. The paper crafts are of two designs: one is made to look like a bell, the other has a star inside a circle above a triangle. These two designs alternate. A row of the same two designs alternating is visible along the top edge of this image. A desk or small table is visible at the bottom of the image. Several pieces of paper and paper scraps are visible on top of the desk/table. Image 11 shows a fairly large Christmas display illustrating the lyrics from the 12 Days of Christmas song. The display is rectangular, with the long axis horizontal. Above and along the top edge of the display is "TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS." Paper crafts illustrating each of the twelve days of Christmas logo are arranged in order on the display. A bookshelf is partially visible along the bottom edge of this image. Image 12 shows a wall with paper crafts hanging on it which illustrate ten elves gathered around a Christmas tree. One of the elves is on a ladder to the right of the Christmas tree. Spelled out in paper letters above the tree and elves is "WELCOME TO EVERGREEN FOREST." Image 13 shows a female child hanging a circle of paper with glitter on it on a roughly triangular grouping of paper daisy chains. The paper circle is meant to resemble a Christmas tree ornament and the daisy chains appear to be meant to resemble a Christmas tree. The child is on the left-hand side of the image and the daisy chain tree is on the right. The image was captured from quite close to the wall, and looking down the wall toward the child and wall decoration. The child is holding the paper ornament with her right hand. Image 14 is very similar to the previous image, but here the child is holding onto the paper ornament with both hands. Image 15 shows three male children hanging items on the daisy chain tree. The children are at the left and the wall decoration is on the right. The child nearest to the camera is reaching up with his right hand to hang something on the wall decoration. Image 16 is very similar to the previous image, but here the child is holding a paper ornament up on the wall with his left hand. He is scratching his nose with his right hand. Image 17 shows three children working on putting glitter on round pieces of paper to make paper Christmas tree ornaments. The children are at the left and the countertop with the craft station on it is on the right. A sink is partially visible in the bottom-right corner of this image. Image 18 shows two male children seated at a table and working on crafts. Both boys are facing toward the right-hand side of the image frame. The both nearer to the camera is using a hand-held hole punch on a small piece of paper. There is a container of glue on the table next to him. The boy farther from the camera is reaching toward the right-hand side of the image frame. Image 19 shows a boy seated at a table and pushing down with fingers of both hands on a paper Christmas tree. There is a pair of scissors and a container of Elmer's Glue on the table next to him. He is looking straight downward on the paper Christmas tree. Image 20 shows a little girl also working on a paper Christmas tree. She appears to be putting a sticker on the tree. There is a pair of scissors and a container of Elmer's glue on the table next to the girl. Her mouth is partially open and she is looking down at the paper tree. Image 21 shows a child seated on a table and working on a craft. They appear to be using felt. It is difficult to tell what the object in the child's hands is, but there is a piece of felt on the table in the shape of a Christmas tree. There is a pair of scissors and a container of glue on the table next to the child. Image 22 shows the same child working on the same project. However, this image was captured from the child's left-hand side. The child is facing toward the left-hand side of the image frame.Made/Created
