Description

Geoduck Hunters, 1976. These two black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show two men working on a boat to hunt geoducks. Image 26 shows what appears to be person in some kind of diving suit jumping off the side of the boat. The image is quite blurry, so it is difficult to make out. Image 27 looks over the edge of the boat's rail and over a body of water toward land in the distance. Image 28 shows a man with a goatee in a captain's hat and a button-up shirt reaching into a milk crate with geoducks in it. His head and body are oriented toward the camera. Image 29 is blank. Image 30 shows the man with the goatee reaching into the milk crate with geoducks in it, but here the man is shown from the back. Image 31 shows the man with the goatee pulling a single geoduck out of the milk crate, or perhaps putting it into the milk crate. Image 32 shows a milk crate partially filled with geoducks. Image 33 shows what appears to be a portion of a person sitting in a chair's back. This is visible in the lower-left corner of the image. Two walls of an office are visible in the background. Image 34 is nearly identical to image 33. These images were captured for inclusion with two articles concerning local geoducks. ("Local geoduck fortunes rise and fall with the tides" and "Geoducks: the big clam is big business," Lacey Leader, 8/25/1976)
