Description

Unidentified, 1976. These two black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show children and adults crossing a road at a crosswalk. Image 14 shows a group of four children walking down a sidewalk past a parking lot toward a school building. All four are facing away from the camera. A group of 10-12 people, are standing near the windows along the side of the school. This image was captured from across the street from the school. A road is partially visible in the foreground. Image 15 shows a woman and four children crossing a crosswalk toward the school seen in the previous image. The woman is holding a hand of each of the two smaller children. The woman and children are all facing away from the camera. Image 16 shows two women and nine children crossing at the same crosswalk. The woman on the left is holding a baby in her arms. Image 17 shows an adult standing next to a bike on a bike rack. This person is wearing a heavy coat with a hood pulled back and is facing away from the camera. The bike rack is very large, several other bikes are locked to it, and one other bike is laying on the ground. The school is visible in the background. Image 18 shows two girls crossing a crosswalk toward a child in a crossing guard vest. The child in the vest is also holding a flag with "STOP" print on it. This child is facing toward the camera, and the two girls are facing away from the camera. A car stopped at the crosswalk is partially visible at the left-hand side of the image frame. The school is visible in the right-hand side of the background. A street sign on the corner the two girls are crossing to reads "22ND AVE SE." Image 19 is very similar to the previous image, but here the two girls crossing the street have reached the far side. These two girls are still facing away from the camera. The crossing guard is facing toward the left-hand side of the image and appears to be speaking to the two girls. Image 20 shows three adults and approximately seven children crossing the same crosswalk see images 15 and 16. There is one crossing guard at the left and one at the right. Image 21 is very similar to the previous image, but here the adults and children have progressed further toward the far side of the road. Image 22 shows three adults and approximately six children crossing the crosswalk toward the camera. Here the photographer is standing at the opposite end of the crosswalk as in the previous image. Here a single-storey rambler-style home is visible at the right-hand side of the image background. Image 23 is very similar to images 20 and 21, but here three adults and five children are crossing. Image 24 shows a boy standing alongside his bicycle and waiting to cross the crosswalk. A person standing behind this boy, and who is mostly obscured behind the boy, is holding a bicycle similarly. Two children are standing at the left-hand edge of the image frame. A crossing guard is standing at the right-hand side of the image frame. Based on the fact that this elementary school is located on 22nd Avenue SE suggests that it is Mountain View Elementary. Printed in alternation along one long edge of these two film negative strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."
