Political Signs, 1976. This single black and white contact print strip was created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show eleven political signs of various sizes grouped together in grassy area.
Image 4 shows the signs. These signs, from left to right, support the candidacy of: Dixy Lee Ray for governor, Jerry Gray for state representative, George Yantis for county commissioner, Marvin Durning for governor, Jon Hendricks for representative, Steve Hulbert for senate, John Spellman for governor, Emory Kramer for representative, Del Bausch for senate, and another for John Spellman for governor. Another sign at the far right supports the passage of a parks initiative. The Del Bausch is by far the largest of the signs. The lower-left portion of a billboard is visible in the upper-right portion of the image. This billboard shows an illustration of a building amongst trees, but has no visible text. Image 5 is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 6 shows the same scene as the previous images, but here the photographer has moved approximately eight feet to their left. Image 7 focuses on the sign for Dixy Lee Ray ("Dixy For Us!). The angle of this image suggests that the photographer was crouching down. Image 8 is very similar to the previous image, but here the photographer appears to have stood up.
The candidates supported by the signs show that they concern the 1976 elections. This was the only election in which Dixy Lee Ray and John Spellman were gubernatorial candidates.Made/Created
