Description

Store Products, 1977. These nine black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using three separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show various home-use goods and appliances on shelves in a store. The store is likely a Sears. Image 7a shows what appear to be two pressure cookers or crock pots and an electric waffle iron on a shelf. Partially visible on the shelf above these items are two more crock pots or deep fryers. This image is oriented horizontally. Image 8a is very similar to the previous image, but here the image is oriented vertically. Image 9a shows two crock pots on a shelf. A third crock pot is partially visible at the right-hand edge of the image. Image 10a shows two electric waffle irons and a crock pot on a shelf. Image 11a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 12a shows an unknown appliance at center, a crock pot at left, and a waffle iron at right. Image 13a shows a donut maker sitting open on top of a stack of boxes of donut makers. This donut maker is similar to a waffle maker in that it is in two pieces and opens with a hinge. Image 15a shows a tall stack of product boxes on a pallet. Unboxed examples of the items are sitting on top of the stacked boxes. Image 16a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 17a shows several boxes on a shelf for an item called "The NailWorks." Image 18a shows a stack of boxes of lighted make-up mirrors. Image 19a shows boxes of American Star-brand blowdryers. Image 20a shows an electric coffee maker sitting on a stack of boxed coffee makers. The brand name is "Coffee Miser." Image 21a shows a row of various types of electric coffee makers sitting on a shelf. Image 22a is very similar to the previous image. Image 23a shows an electric popcorn popper sitting on top of a boxed popcorn popper. This popcorn popper is shaped similarly to a cauldron which tapers slightly toward the top. Image 24a shows a yogurt maker on a shelf. Image 25a shows an assortment of appliances, such as deep fryers and crock pots, on two shelves. Image 26a shows an unknown appliance and what appears to be a waffle iron on a shelf. Image 27a shows several boxed appliances called a "Glass Froster." Image 28a shows a shelf display of "Smokeless Ashtrays." Image 29a is identical to the previous image. Image 30a shows a display of boxed ice cream makers. Image 31a shows four people gathered around a display for a video game console called "Tele-Games." There is a small television on top of a large, tri-fold display. This image is oriented horizontally. Image 32a is very similar to the previous image, but here the image is oriented vertically. Image 33a shows the Tele-Games display without any people around it. A Tele-Games console and controllers are on a table in front of the tri-fold display. Images 34a and 35a are nearly identical to the previous image. Image 36a shows a display of shaving products. The images in group "b" show turkeys in a cooler and boxes of stuffing for sale in a grocery store, and live turkeys in a field. Image 21b shows turkeys for sale in a cooler case at a grocery store. This image is oriented vertically. Image 22b shows the same case, but here the image is oriented horizontally. Image 23b shows a coffin-style cooler case with a four-tiered stack of boxes of stuffing on the back side of the cooler. Images 24b through 28b are all nearly identical to image 23b. Image 29b shows two turkeys in a field. Image 30a shows four turkeys in a field. The images in group "c" show various kitchen-use items for sale in a store. Image 23c shows a stack of boxes of a product called the "peeling wand." Image 24c is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 25c shows a stack of boxed items called what appears to be the "Food Chopper." Image 26c is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 27c shows several stacked boxes of crepe makers.
