Description

Unidentified, 1975. These ten black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using two separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. Image 27a shows an older woman seated at a picnic table. She is wearing a jacket. Image 28a shows two women seated at a picnic table. Both are wearing glasses. The woman at center is looking down and eating ice cream out of a small bowl. The woman at left is looking toward the camera and drinking from a small milk container. Images 29a is similar to the previous image, but here the woman at center is taking a bite of ice cream. The woman at left is looking toward the left-hand side of the image frame. Image 30a shows a Ford Van parked in a field. The front end of the van is pointed toward the camera. There is a fairly large group of people visible in the background to the right of the van. A single-storey building and a car are partially visible in the background to the left of the van. Image 31a shows many people seated on outdoor bleachers. Image 39a shows a person's hand holding three tickets which are roughly the size of American bill currency. These tickets appear to be good in exchange for Tenino wooden currency. Images 40a-42a are nearly identical. Image 43a is very blurry and cannot be made out. Image 44a shows one man in a blazer speaking at a podium. This man is on the far left of the image, and is facing toward the left edge of the image. Six other men in dress attire are seated in a row behind the man. The man on the far right is Bill Bush. Image 1a shows a different man speaking at the same podium as in the previous image. Here the man at the podium is centered in the image. Visible in front of the podium is an American flag on a pole. Image 2a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 3a shows a different person speaking from the same podium, but here the image was captured from the rear of the room. Many people seated at picnic tables are visible between the camera and the person at the podium. This image and the three previous may have been captured inside a semi-enclosed camp/picnic shelter. Image 4a shows a very close-up and blurry image of a man's face. A small paper document, also very blurry, is obscuring the lower portion of the man's face. Image 5a shows a body of water viewed through some trees. Image 6a is very similar to the previous image. Image 7a is very similar to the previous two images, but here a portion of a picnic table is visible at the left-hand side of the image frame. Image 8a shows a different man speaking at the same podium seen in previous images. The man is facing toward the right-hand side of the image frame. Image 9a is similar to the previous image, but here the photographer is in front of the podium. Image 9a shows the back of a woman's head. This image is partially overlapping with the previous image. Image 10a shows a woman holding a long strip of something in her right hand. She is standing next to a large piece of office equipment. This piece of equipment has a large cover similar to the hood of a car which is open. Image 18b shows a man in glasses and a blazer speaking at a podium. The front of the podium reads "Tyee," suggesting that this event took place at the Tyee Motor Inn in Tumwater, Washington. Image 19b shows a woman wearing a tiara and a man with a mustache standing at the podium and holding up a football jersey with "Linda Faaren" and the number 15 on it. A man with a goatee wearing a blazer is partially visible at the right-hand edge of the image frame. Image 20b is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 21b is similar to the two previous images, but here the man with the mustache is turning the jersey toward the woman with the tiara. Image 22b shows the woman is the tiara hugging the man with the goatee. Image 23b-26b shows the woman with the tiara speaking at the podium. Image 29b shows a seated woman wearing glasses and a cardigan looking toward the camera and smiling. A framed piece of art is hanging on the wall behind the woman. Image 30b is similar to the previous image, but here a portion of the woman's desk and a counter behind her are visible. Here she is not looking toward the camera. Images 31b and 32b are similar to the previous image, but here the woman is looking at the camera. Image 33b is similar to the previous images, but here the photographer has backed away from the woman. Printed in alternation along one long edge of all of these strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."
