Unidentified, 1976. These ten black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using several separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images.
The images in group "a" show a man in a meat shop or deli, a woman in what appears to be an electronics store, two men posing separately for portrait style photos, a young man holding up a framed art piece, and a man pointing at a map. Image 43a shows a man with glasses and a beard wearing a collared shirt and standing in a wood-paneled room. He is shown from the mid-torso up. Image 44a shows a man with glasses and a mustache wearing a short-sleeved, collared shirt holding up a coiling rope of link sausages and a large salami or summer sausage. He is standing in front of a display case in what appears to be a meat shop or deli. He is shown from the waist up. Images 2a and 3a are nearly identical to image 44a. Image 4a is similar to the previous three images, but here the man is shown from the chest up. The meat products in the man's hands in the previous images are not visible here. Image 5a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 7a shows the same man from the previous images seated in a small booth. The rope of sausage and the salami are laying on the table in front of him. Image 8a shows a woman leaning over a counter in a room with shelves on the far wall filled with electronics equipment, LP records, cassettes, and what appear to be books. Image 9a shows a man with glasses, a mustache and medium-length hair posing for a portrait-style photo. He is looking toward the camera and smiling. Images 10a and 11a are nearly identical to image 9a. Image 17a shows a young man wearing a collared shirt posing for a portrait style photo. He is facing directly toward the camera and is not smiling. Image 18a shows the young man from the previous image seated in a chair and holding a framed painting or drawing. There is a ribbon attached to the right-hand side of the art piece which reads "A.C.E. State Convention 1976 First Place." Image 19a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 21a shows a man with glasses and swept-back hair wearing a blazer over a turtleneck sweater. He is visible from the mid-chest up, and he is on the left-hand side of the image. Image 22a shows the man from the previous image pointing at a map of the Olympia-Lacey-Tumwater area. Images 23a through 28a all show the man pointing at the map.
The images in group "b" show several people alongside a locomotive, a young man working on some electronic equipment, and a sign advertising a masquerade ball. Image 21b shows the right-hand side of the front of a locomotive on tracks in a wooded area. The locomotive is hauling large logs. One section of a log is laying alongside the tracks, and it appears to have rolled off of the train car. Image 22b is very similar to the previous image, but here two men are standing next to the locomotive. Image 23b shows a man bending down to reach under the train car. Images 24b through 26b are nearly identical to image 21b. Image 38b shows a young man in a sweater seated at a low table with partially disassembled electronic equipment on the table in front of him. He is turned toward the camera. The wall on the left-hand side of the image is filled with various pieces of electronic equipment. A chair set on top of a table or desk is visible in the background to the right of the young man, suggesting that this image may have been captured in a classroom. This may also be the same room seen in image 8a (see above). Image 39b is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 40b is very similar to the previous two images, but here the young man is turned toward the equipment on the table in front of him. Image 41b is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 42b shows a sign advertising a masquerade ball at the Olympia Theater. This sign is standing upright on a carpeted floor. On the floor in front of the sign is a trumpet sitting on top of an open trumpet case.
The images in group "c" show a parlor, the same masquerade ball sign seen in image 42b, a man and woman posing with a phonograph, and four women looking at a (presumably fake) human skull with the top cut off. Image 36c shows the interior of a small, elaborately decorated room. A piano with two candelabras on top is on the left-hand side of the image. A window is partially visible at the right-hand edge of the image. Image 37c shows the same sign seen in image 42b. Image 38c shows a woman with glasses and short hair and a man with a beard wearing plaid pants standing next to a table with a phonograph sitting on top. This image was captured in a room with elaborate decoration similar to that seen in image 36c. These images may have been captured in a museum or historic home. Image 5c shows two standing women looking at a human skull with the top removed held by a third, seated, woman. They are gathered at a counter with a circular sink with two faucets arching over it. The seated woman is looking at the standing woman at left. Image 6c is very similar to the previous image, but here all three women are looking at the skull. Image 7c is very similar to image 6c, but here a fourth woman is visible standing in the background. Images 8c and 9c are nearly identical to image 7c.Made/Created
