Saint Martin's College, Unknown Dates. These seven black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using three separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images.
The images in group "a" show four men and one woman seated in various spots in a lounge or break room-style room. One of the men is Father John Scott. Based on the appearance of the room's interior, it appears that these images were taken in the Old Main building on the Saint Martin' campus. Image 2a shows Father John Scott seated in a chair. A window is partially visible behind him, and a radiator is visible to his right. Image 3a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 4a shows Father John Scott seated on the center seat of a three-seat couch with his feet up on a coffee table in front of him. He is covering his face and looking away from the camera. A man wearing a Heidelberg beer t-shirt is visible in the background facing toward the camera. Image 5a shows Father Scott, the man in the Heidelberg shirt, a third man and a woman seated on two of the three-seater couches, which are oriented in an L-shape. They appear to be discussing something. Image 6a is similar to the previous image, but here only Father Scott and the man in the Heidelberg shirt are totally visible as the photographer has panned to ward the right. A person with medium-length hair is visible in the lower-right corner. Images 7a through 12a are effectively identical to image 5a. Image 13a shows Father Scott seated on the couch and looking toward the camera. His arms are crossed and his feet are up on the table. The man in the Heidelber shirt is partially visible at the right-hand side of the image frame. This image is oriented vertically. Image 14a is very similar to the previous image, but here the image is oriented horizontanlly and the man in the Heidelberg shirt is fully visible. Image 15a is very similar to image 13a, but here Father Scott is looking toward the left-hand side of the image frame. Images 16a through 24a are effectively identical to images 7a through 12a.
The images in group "b" show four females/male couples at what appears to be a semi-formal dance. Image 28b shows a man and woman slow dancing. The man is facing the camera, and the woman is facing away from the camera. The man is wearing a cardigan and tie. The woman is wearing a sweater or cardigan. Image 29b shows a different man and woman standing next to each other and posing for a photo. Both are smiling. The woman is wearing a jacket or blazer and the man is wearing s tie and plaid blazer. Image 30b shows another man and woman standing next to each other and smiling from the camera. The woman is wearing a corsage and the right shoulder and the man is wearing a tie and striped cardigan. Image 31b shows another man and woman posing together. The woman is wearing a floral-print dress and the man is wearing a blazer with a shielf with "SMC" within it embroidered on the left breast. The clothing and hair styles seen in this group of images suggests that they were taken in the early-to-mid 1960s.
The images in group "c" show exterior shots of buildings on or adjacent to the Saint Martin's campus. Image 8c shows the exterior of Marcus (previously Capital) Pavilion. Image 9c shows Lacey Lumber & Builders Supply buildings. A large expanse of empty parking lot is between the camera and the buildings. Image 10c shows another shot of the Marcus Pavilion. Images 11c shows the Abbey Theater building. Images 25c and 26c show a building with no identifying sign on it. This may be the back side of the Abbey Theater.Made/Created
