Olympia Little Theater, 1974 and 1975. These eight black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using three separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film rolls from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex:1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in groups "a" and "c" are likely from a story on the Olympia Little Theater's production of "A Thousand Clowns," which they performed on several dates in April of 1974. The images in group "b" show a rehearsal or performance of the Olympia Little Theater's production of "Hay Fever," performed on several dates inn October of 1975.
The images in group "a" show three different men posing for portrait-style photos. All of the men are shown from roughly the waist-up. Image 6a shows a man in a suit jacket wearing a hat which looks like a very heavily-worn fedora. This man appears to be Ed Jeffries. There is a strip of a material around the base of the crown of the hat which is likely very messy fur. The man's head and body are oriented toward the left-hand side of the image, and the man is looking toward the camera and smiling. Portions of several rows of seating are visible in the background. Image 7a is very similar to the previous image, but here the man's head is turned directly toward the camera. Image 8a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 9a is nearly identical to image 6a. Image 10a shows a young man wearing thick-rimmed glasses and a short-sleeved, button-up shirt. His head and body are turned partially toward the left-hand side of the image, and he is looking toward the camera and not smiling. He appears to be standing in the same location as the man seen in images 6a-9a. Image 11a is very similar to image 10a, but here the young man is showing a closed-lipped smile. Image 12a shows the young man with his head and body turned more toward the camera than in the previous two images. He appears to be laughing. Image 13a is similar to image 12a, but here the young man is again showing a closed-lipped-smile. His right hand is on his right hip (the hand itself is below the border of the image frame). Image 14a shows a man with medium-length hair and a mustache in a suit jacket and tie. His torso is oriented directly toward the camera and his head is tipped toward his right.
The images in group "b" show one woman (Margaret McFarland) seated at center with a second woman (Terres Unsoeld) to her left and a man (Greg Youtz) on her right. The woman at center is facing the camera and the man and second woman are facing toward the woman at center. The woman at center has one hand on the side of the face of both the man and second woman. The woman appears to be speaking. Images 3b through 6b show the woman at center looking toward the second woman. Image 7b shows the woman at center facing roughly toward the camera. Images 8b through 10b show the woman at center looking toward the second woman. Image 11b shows the woman at center looking toward the man.
The images in group "c" show one man and one woman posing for portrait-style photos. Images 26c through 28c are nearly identical to image 14a (all of the images of this man appear to have been taken at nearly the same time). Image 29c shows a woman with medium-length hair wearing a polka-dotted, short-sleeved cardigan. Her arms are crossed at her waist and she is holding a program or pamphlet which reads "A Thousand Clowns," on the front. Image 29c shows the woman looking off toward the left-hand side of the image frame. Image 30c is very similar to the previous image, but here she is looking toward the camera and smiling. Image 31c is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 32c is similar to the previous two images, but here the woman's eyes are partially closed and she may be laughing. Image 33c shows the woman smiling at the camera with her head tipped to her left. Image 34c is very similar to the previous image. Image 35c is nearly identical to image 32c. Image 36c is very similar to image 34c, but here the woman is smiling less. Image 37c shows the woman with her head tilted toward her right.Made/Created
