Lakefair, 1976. These four black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show scenes of the Lakefair queen ceremony and various carnival scenes, all at the 1976 Lakefair.
Image 3 shows a man walking down a boardwalk wearing what appears to be a late-18th century costume and ringing a bell. He appears to be acting as a town crier. A large crowd can be seen gathered in the background. Image 4 shows six young women in formal gowns seated in a row. The young woman at the far left is Lisa Michaelson. The young woman at the far right wearing the tiara is Cindy Burns, the 1975 Lakefair queen. The four women at center are, in no particular order: Colleen Davis, Debbie Hawkinson, Tina Baker and Theresa Connor. All five of the 1976 candidates are wearing matching formal dresses and are holding flower bouquets. Ms. Burns is wearing a cape and a shoulder corsage. A portion of the crowd and the upper portions of two buildings are visible in the background. Images 5 and 6 are effectively identical to image 4. Image 7 is very similar to the three previous images, but here the photographer has panned to the left to focus on Lisa Michaelson. Ms. Michaelson's mouth is wide open in surprise. Image 8 shows Ms. Michaelson closely surrounded by three other queen candidates and a man is a plaid blazer. Image 9 is very similar to the previous image, but here the man in the blazer is not in the image. Image 10 shows a portion of Ms.. Michaelson's face, but the lower portion of the face is obscured behind another contestant's head. This contestant is facing away from the camera. Image 11 shows Ms. Michaelson at the center of the image covering her mouth with both hands. Two other contestants are visible standing at the right-hand side of the image frame. Image 12 shows a man in a blazer placing a tiara on Ms. Michaelson's head. Ms. Michaelson is facing away from the camera. Image 13 shows Ms. Michaelson and a man in a Capitalarians blazer embracing. Cindy Burns is visible at the left-hand side of the image. A man in a plaid blazer is visible at the right-hand side of the image. Image 14 again shows a man placing a tiara on Ms. Michaelson's head. Here Ms. Michaelson is wearing a cape. Image 15 shows Ms. Michaelson reaching up and touching her tiara. A second constestant's arm is visible reaching in the image from the right and also touching the tiara. Image 16 shows a man participating in the high striker carnival game. The hammer is up in the air, the man is squatting down slightly. Image 17 shows a man holding the hammer for the high striker in both hands. This man is looking upward. Image 18 shows a ferries wheel and a large crowd of people around the base of the ferris wheel. This image looks at the ferris wheel's edge. Image 18 shows a large crowd of people milling about in an open area surrounded by food trucks and other food vendors. The Washington State Capitol Building is visible in the background at center. Image 20 is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 21 is effectively blank. Image 22 shows three large metal cages containing many small birds. Beyond the cages is a crowd of people.
