Lakefair, 1980. These six black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show people engaged in various activities at the 1980 Lakefair.
Image 43 shows a man and a woman in a very small watercraft. Both the man and woman are rowing. They are both facing toward the left-hand side of the image frame. A waterslide, a ferris wheel and other items are visible in the background. Image 44 is nearly identical to image 43, but here the man and woman are traveling away from the camera. Image 1 shows the man and woman rowing the watercraft, but here they are facing toward the right-hand side of the image frame. Image 2 shows two men in similar watercraft as that seen in the previous three images. The two men are rowing away from the camera and toward the Washington State Capitol Building, which is visible in the distance. Image 3 shows two shirtless men rowing one of the watercraft. A waterslide and ferris wheel are visible in the background. Image 4 shows five young people helping to lower a small boat into Capitol Lake. Images 5 and 6 show the boat in the water with several people nearby. Image 7 shows two people in the boat and rowing away from the camera. Image 8 shows one little girl and two little boys standing in the image foreground. Both boys are facing away from the camera and the girl is facing toward the left-hand side of the image frame. A large crowd is visible beyond these three children. Image 10 shows a man in a cowboy-like hat and sunglasses participating in a fast shot/quickdraw contest. The man is in the process of pulling the pistol from his holster or replacing it in the holster. There is a patch on the left shoulder of the man's shirt which appears to read "WORLD FAST SHOT." A small cloud of dark smoke is visible along the left-hand edge of the image, suggesting that the man had just fired. There is a fairly small group of people standing behind the man. Image 21 is very similar to the previous image, but here the man appears to be firing toward the camera. The man is partially obscured behind a cloud of smoke. Image 22 is very similar to image 21, but here the man is more obscured behind a cloud of smoke. Image 23 shows a woman holding a revolver in her left hand and she appears to be grabbing a round from the hand of a man standing to the left of the woman. Images 24-27 show the woman firing the revolver. Image 28 shows a different woman firing a pistol. Image 29 shows children and two young women riding a carousel ride. The young women appear to be Lakefair queen candidates based on their striped blazers and tanktops. The young woman on the left is wearing sunglasses and a tiara and has her blazer laying over legs. Image 30 shows two different Lakefair queen candidates passing the camera on the carousel. Image 31 shows the Lakefair queen candidate wearing sunglasses and a tiara passing the camera on the carousel. Image 32 shows two Lakefair queen candidates riding their carousel "horses" backward. Image 33 through 38 all also show Lakefair queen candidates riding the carousel. Images 39 and 40 show three people playing a carnival game involving strings hanging from the ends of sticks and glass 7-Up bottles.
